The camel is a remarkable even-toed ungulate best known for its incredible physiological adaptations that allow it to thrive in some of the harshest desert environments on Earth. There are two primary species: the Dromedary, which has a single hump and is native to the Middle East and Africa, and the Bactrian camel, which has two humps and inhabits the rocky deserts of Central Asia. Contrary to popular belief, these humps do not store water; instead, they are reservoirs of fatty tissue that the camel metabolizes for energy when food is scarce. This unique storage system allows the rest of the camel's body to stay cooler by concentrating fat in one place rather than insulating the entire frame. Furthermore, camels are masters of water conservation, capable of drinking up to 40 gallons in a single session and surviving for weeks without a drop, thanks to specialized blood cells and the ability to tolerate significant fluctuations in body temperature. Beyond their humps, camels possess a suite of "all-terrain" features that make them the ultimate desert survivors. Their eyes are protected by three eyelids and long, thick lashes to keep out blowing sand, while their slit-like nostrils can be closed completely during sandstorms. Their large, flat, leathery foot pads spread out when they step, preventing them from sinking into the soft dunes. Historically known as the "ships of the desert," camels have played a vital role in human civilization for thousands of years, serving as essential pack animals, sources of milk and wool, and symbols of endurance. Even today, they remain culturally and economically significant in many regions, embodying a perfect evolutionary balance of strength, patience, and extreme survival capability. A horse (Equus ferus caballus) is a large, odd-toed ungulate mammal that has played a central role in human civilization for over 5,000 years. Characterized by their powerful muscular build, long necks, and flowing manes, horses are built for speed and endurance, capable of reaching speeds over 80 km/h (50 mph) in a gallop. As herbivorous prey animals, they possess the largest eyes of any land mammal, positioned on the sides of their heads to provide a nearly 360-degree field of vision. One of their most unique biological traits is the “stay apparatus”— a system of tendons and ligaments that allows them to lock their leg joints and sleep while standing up, ensuring they can flee at a moment’s notice if a predator approaches. ✈️ Things Never to Wear on a Plane 1️⃣ Open-toed shoes – Sandals and open-toed footwear are discouraged because aircraft floors and bathrooms aren’t very clean and they don’t protect your feet in case of an emergency. 2️⃣ Offensive clothing – Anything with profanity, lewd graphics, or offensive messaging could lead to being asked to change or even denied boarding under some airline dress codes. 3️⃣ Pajamas – While comfort is important, wearing actual pajamas out in public and on a flight isn’t recommended (unless the airline provides them in business class). 4️⃣ Swimming attire – Clothes like swimsuits aren’t appropriate for a flight (and some airlines specifically ban them). 5️⃣ A single layer of clothing – Wearing just one layer — e.g., only a tank top or a sweater — isn’t ideal because cabin temperatures can vary; layers are recommended instead. 6️⃣ Bulky metal jewelry – Heavy or oversized metal accessories are impractical and cumbersome — especially at security — so it’s better to pack them than wear them. 7️⃣ Strong fragrances – Wearing potent perfume or cologne is discouraged as scents travel far in a confined cabin and may irritate fellow travelers. #traveltips #airplaneetiquette #travelsmart

The post features a 60-second video of a worker in Pakistan unloading heavy rocks from a tipper truck using a long pole while clad in traditional shalwar kameez and open-toed sandals, emphasising the sarcasm in the caption about 'safety sandals' amid visibly hazardous conditions. Replies reveal widespread viewer frustration over the clip's anticlimactic nature, with many lamenting the 'wasted minute' as the worker completes the task uneventfully, amassing over 3 million views and 4,000 likes in hours. Such manual unloading persists in South Asian construction due to equipment shortages, contributing to high injury rates; ILO data indicates over 1 million annual work-related deaths globally, with falls and struck-by incidents prominent in informal sectors lacking PPE.

Few people know that sloths also come down to drink water. This is a three-toed sloth with her baby, drinking water from a mangrove root. The scene looks endearing, but it also reminds us how fragile these ecosystems are. Protecting Costa Rica's nature is protecting life itself. 🌿🦥 #Repost @wildinstinct_costarica When the tide goes out, the saltwater—which is heavier—stays at the bottom, while the freshwater from the river flows and remains on the surface. That's why, even in mangroves, there is usually a layer of freshwater on top, which many animals take advantage of to drink. Nature is wise and works in balance. 🎥 Original video: Martin Lesch 📍 Location: Punta Uva Mangroves, Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica.. • #CostaRica • #VidaSilvestre • #Perezoso • #Conservación • NaturalezaReal

Just hanging around with this two-toed sloth at Fame Park in Dubai! 🦥💚 You might think being upside down would be uncomfortable, but for them, that’s actually their “right side up.” Sloths are built for a life spent suspended from branches, their organs are positioned differently inside their bodies, with their stomachs, livers, and even spleens shifted to accommodate hanging. Their long curved claws act like natural hooks, locking into place so they can hang effortlessly without using any muscle energy. Even their hair grows in the opposite direction from other mammals, parting down their belly so rainwater can run off while they’re inverted. So when you see a sloth hanging, just know that’s their version of standing upright! 🌿✨

Breakfast in bucket, anyone? 🦥🍎This is Chewie, a Linneaus’s two-toed sloth who came to the Zoo after being rescued from SeaQuest after its closure. Now, she’s been making herself comfortable in her new home on the Tropics Trail, snoozing, cruising through branches, and enjoying her favorite snacks including cucumbers, eggs, grapes, yellow squash, and apples.
