One of the things that chips away at confidence is breaking promises with yourself. Most of us have had the experience of setting out on a goal, some kind of behavior change we're trying to make. A new exercise routine, a new eating routine, a new meditation routine, a new writing routine, a new reading routine. Some of this is starting things. Some of this is cutting things out. Cutting down on Netflix, cutting down on the Ben & Jerry's at night, cutting down on soda. And then we've watched ourselves not do the thing we intended to do. There's a difference between assuming that we have to be perfect to build self-trust and realizing that our self-trust is about resilience and learning. When we inevitably fall off the wagon, when we don't do a thing that we intended to do, the way to thread that needle is to get confident in your ability to bounce back. #brainbasedcoaching #confidencetools #behaviorchange

Your feelings drive your actions. And your actions slowly build your identity. Which is why self-talk isn’t harmless. Every thought you repeat with emotion is training your nervous system. Your brain is always rewiring, which means something really powerful: ✨ You are always changeable. Your brain also responds to imagination like rehearsal. So when you picture a calmer, more capable, more grounded version of yourself… you’re actually practising new neural pathways. And here’s something I find really freeing: You don’t own your thoughts. They visit you. You simply choose which ones get to stay. You can’t always think your way out of a feeling… but when your body feels safe, your thinking changes. I used to repeat that story to myself all the time - and the more I thought it, the more my brain believed it was true. Here's the thing - our brains are incredibly good at learning whatever we repeatedly tell them - even when it's unkind and completely untrue. Which means it can be relearned. It's a huge part of what I do now - helping people change their internal narrative that has quietly been running the show for years. Because confidence isn't something you're born with.
