THThe government has blocked five OTT platforms for allegedly streaming obscene content, officials said on Tuesday. The action was taken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting after what sources described as due process under existing laws.
The platforms affected are MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel and Jugnu. According to officials, these apps were found to be in violation of rules that prohibit obscene material on digital platforms.
Access to the platforms has been restricted under the Information Technology Rules, 2021, along with provisions dealing with obscenity. The move has been carried out under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which gives the government powers to block online content in the interest of public order and decency.
Officials said the step is meant to ensure digital platforms follow the law and maintain basic standards of content regulation.
