As he defines it, structural racism means that policies may be written without the express intent of oppressing people of color, but their effects can still deepen inequality on a racial basis. That’s the paradox at the center of his life’s work. In this 101 in 101 video, a series that challenges UC Berkeley faculty to explain their field in 101 seconds, Menendian explains how most of the mechanisms that form structural racism –– like mass incarceration –– have taken shape in the post-Civil Rights era. My 5 Favourite Exercises with the Tidal Tank Sphere 🌊 The additional resistance (perturbations) created through the inertia of the water creates chaos and places a higher demand for better execution, skill and strength. The unstable environment is a great way to add complexity to exercises that require stability, balance and coordination. Bosch Snatch The hip lock into a snatch emphasises forward projection of the hips for better force production. ✅ Trunk Stiffness ✅ Overhead Shoulder Stability ✅ Hip Extension Weighted Duck Walk Hips are nice and low, aim is to try and get the horizontal shin angle and lod within hip flexion. Train low, to play low. Great exercise for bigs. ✅ Hip Flexor Strength ✅ Glute and Quad Strength Split Stance ISO Reverse Wood Chops Combining a split stance isometric with the reverse wood chop places a demand on the trunk and lower extremities to maintain balance while producing force. ✅ Lower Leg Isometric Strength ✅ Core rotational power Around-the-World Great and fun challenge for a staple stability exercise. The perturbations create an additional challenge to maintain balance ✅ Single leg balance ✅ Foot and ankle strength ✅ Full Body Coordination ✅ Core Strength Deep Tier Lateral Bounds This is a great strategy to load the quads and glutes. Stepping off the step creates impact on landing. Exercise 2: Also without dual tasking, but with perturbations. This includes start-stops where the athlete needs to absorb the landing. Exercise 3: Agility with a visual component from @lighttrainer. By tapping the lights, a deeper knee angle is created at the moment of landing (deceleration). Exercise 4: Another agility exercise with visual stimuli. In this movement, the athlete jumps over the step, which increases the impact on landing. Whenever possible I try to increase our weight room efficiency by choosing shoulder exercises that are core exercises in disguise & vice-versa. Here are a few examples from our training this week. 💪Loaded (ankles, knees, hips) single-arm cable presses are a good upper body push and better anti-rotation core exercise 💪 Overhead Aquabag Lateral Sways tax shoulder stabilizers but everyone’s obliques were sore the next day. Credit to @marko.stojanovic.coach for this idea and @ultimateinstability for the equipment. 💪Landmine Push-Pull with a side-order of rotation. Credit to @nooch_13 for this variation. 💪Bench-Hanging Single-Arm Flies. Looks like a chest exercise but your abs will die long before your pecs do.
