This one was a huge restock! I’ve been trying to use up bits from my freezer as much as possible to empty it out. Shout out to @sarahberney for the banana cookie recipe. Tortila wraps recipe 240g plain flor + extra for dusting 1 tsp fine sea salt 1/4 tsp baking powder 60g soft butter 160ml warm water Combine dry ingredients. Mix in soft butter roughy, then add the water and knead till it comes together. Tip it onto the surface, using extra flour for dusting knead for 3-5 mins till smooth. Split into 6 balls equal size and rest for 30 mins. Roll out to a rough circle then dry fry in a hot skillet for 30- 40 seconds on each side. Place in a tea towel while the rest cook. #fromscratch #freezerrestock #upf

After cutting out ultra-processed food, the difference can be dramatic. Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) make up about 57 percent of the average adult diet and 67 percent of children’s diets. On a high ultra-processed food diet, people consume around 500 extra calories per day, often without realizing it, partly because most people eat two to four times the listed serving size. These foods are engineered to be addictive, with about 14 percent of adults and 12 percent of children meeting addiction criteria, similar to alcohol and tobacco. Over time, this adds up, with ultra-processed food consumption linked to 10.5 percent of all premature deaths. In as little as three days after removing ultra-processed foods, cravings can begin to fade and appetite regulation starts to return. Make the change and cut out UPFs for good. Industrially produced bread is the most commonly eaten ultra processed food in the UK, making up 11% of our UPF intake. While many breads are sold without labels, for those which are I would advise choosing options with as few ingredients as possible and as much fibre as possible. Don’t be fooled by health halos such as ‘high-fibre’ on bread packaging, the threshold for this claim is very low at only around 6g/100g. Instead, look out for a carb-to-fibre ratio (C:F) of less than 5:1. I tend to go for rye or spelt flour sourdough breads with as mixed seeds. Research has shown that compared to wholewheat bread, rye appears to produce better metabolic and microbiome responses and keeps you full for longer (PMID: 29896479). Choosing sourdough may improve the digestibility of bread, with one study finding that sourdough bread caused significantly lower symptoms in people with IBS than mechanically produced bread (PMID: 25356771). It’s worth noting that most supermarket sourdough breads add several chemicals including commercial yeasts, flavourings and emulsifiers to imitate the taste of real sourdough in far less time so this label alone does not mean you are getting a healthier product. For me, having bread less often and choosing a better product is the way to go. When I can, baking my own sourdough has become a really enjoyable pastime and research shows that sourdough bakers have more probiotic lactobacillus bacteria on their hands than the average person suggesting the biggest benefit of sourdough may be in making rather than eating it.

To save time but keep it healthy, I used @sainsburys fresh soup (no UPFs!) and @ocadouk all-butter puff pastry (also UPF-free!) This recipe has been adapted and inspired by @myfussyeater 💕 INGREDIENTS; 1 tbsp olive oil ½ onion, diced 640g diced chicken breast ½ tsp oregano ½ tsp garlic powder 600g fresh chicken and sweetcorn soup 1 tsp dijon mustard 100g frozen peas 100g frozen sweetcorn 65g grated cheddar cheese 1 roll puff pastry 1 egg METHOD; ~ Fry the onions for 1 minute. ~ Add the chicken, oregano and garlic powder, stir and cook for 5 minutes. ~ Next, add the chicken soup, dijon mustard, veg and cheese. Giving it all a very good stir. ~ Simmer on low for 5 minutes. ~ Add this to a pie dish and top with the roll of puff pastry. ~ Trim any pastry which hangs over the sides. ~ Crimp the edges with a fork and brush with the beaten egg. ~ Cook in a heated oven at 200C for 25 minutes. Or until pastry is golden! ~ Enjoy with mash and extra veg! **My kids prefer this to bought pies (so do I as it’s healthier), but they love the fact it has so much more chicken in it!! This “food” looks harmless until you see how it’s made. Most commercial yogurt is fermented for 1 to 2 hours, then double-pasteurized. That kills the bacteria. Sugar, gums, starches, and emulsifiers are added to create thickness and flavor. Those same ingredients can feed pathogens, slow bacterial movement, damage the gut lining, and wipe out friendly microbes. If it doesn’t say “live and active cultures” on the label, you’re not getting probiotics. And even when it does, most of those microbes never survive your stomach. Real yogurt ferments for 8 to 36 hours. That long fermentation process changes gut pH, oxygen levels, and feeds keystone microbes that antibiotics and junk food suppress. That environmental shift is the real benefit, not reseeding. If gut health is the goal, yogurt isn’t even the best option. Kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi, and other unpasteurized fermented foods contain far more diverse microbial strains and actually support the gut ecosystem. What you saw here isn’t food for your gut. After being diagnosed with fibroids (I now have 4 💔) and suspected histamine and inflammation issues, I started looking into anything that could potentially disrupt hormones – and synthetic fragrances kept coming up in research as possible endocrine disruptors. So I decided to make a simple change I could control: switching out perfumed products for fragrance-free options wherever possible. At the same time, I’ve been learning more about ultra-processed foods. Things like wafer-thin ham fall into the “processed meat” category, which the World Health Organization classifies as carcinogenic because regular consumption is linked to increased bowel cancer risk and after my dads kidney cancer which thankfully he’s had the all clear for now! 🥹That Polski 🇵🇱 loves his tinned meats and processed porks so that’s when I started to cut that out whenever I could because seeing him go through radiotherapy was agony. And again, im not a nutritionist. I’m not telling anyone what to do or eat. I’m just a woman in my 30s trying to make small, practical swaps for my own health and honestly I was shocked to find so many affordable, low-ingredient, fragrance-free options in M&S that I had to shout about!
