Incline Presses . The incline press is one the best movements to target the upper chest muscles. If you have a lagging chest I recommend incline presses be apart of your routine in conjunction with a horizontal press like the flat presses. . Some mistakes that often get made when performing them are: - Flat Back, no tension in the shoulder blades (scapula). You need to squeeze your shoulder blades back and down to create a stable base for pressing and to ensure tension is on the chest instead of the shoulders. - Some people think that the higher the incline the more upper chest development they will get, but I find that an incline of 45 degrees or more targets more of the front delts than the upper chest. I find something between 15-30 degree incline perfect for hitting the upper chest fibres. - Ensure you are actually controlling the eccentric of the movement, a lot of people don’t control the eccentric when doing exercises and you are literally losing out on 50% of the movement and tension. - Keeping elbows tucked to around 45 degrees is much better at targeting the chest and ensuring there is less tension and strain on your shoulder joint. Flaring your elbows is not ideal and will place a lot of tension in the shoulders instead of the upper chest. . Make sure you do them correctly and with great form. If your form is perfected you will have no trouble feeling the muscle and growing it. .
