REAfter 20½ incredible years, I’m filled with gratitude as I close this chapter of my Army career. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better journey.

TRAdmiral William H. McRaven (born 6 November 1955 in Pinehurst) rose through the US Navy SEALs by treating special operations as a discipline of planning, composure and geopolitical literacy. His command of Joint Special Operations during the early twenty first century placed him at the center of missions that shaped American foreign policy and security doctrine, culminating in the operation against Osama bin Laden. Unlike many military figures he communicated in clean prose and institutional clarity, turning complex operations into lessons on leadership, decision tempo and accountability. After retiring he entered academia and public commentary, proving that operational excellence can translate into civil authority. McRaven’s legacy rests on precision rather than bravado.

APThe APL are members of the PNW POP Coalition, working to fight back against the APEC meetings hosted in the United States this year. In the APL, we are passionate about anti-imperialism, and uphold proletarian internationalism as a guiding principle. As an observer member of the ICMLPO, we have an internationalist perspective in all the work we do. A key component of our revolutionary demands is bringing an end to US involvement in so-called free trade agreements, like APEC, as the outcome of these agreements is further worker exploitation, greater extracting of profits for big capitalists, militarization, and oppression of entire nations. Our party demands an immediate and unconditional military withdrawal from all foreign countries, the closure of all overseas US military bases, and the nullification of all existing “status of forces” agreements, which place the militaries of sovereign countries under US command. Militarization is necessary to intimidate workers of imperialized nations and to stoke the tensions of inter-imperialist rivalries, threatening wars which will only further harm the international working class.
APEC promotes militarization and exploitation, which is why we have signed onto PNW POP. @apl.pnw will be mobilizing with PNW POP to attend the People’s Summit in Seattle, a counter-summit against the ministerial APEC meeting happening in the same city at the same time. The closed-door APEC meetings will decide the future of imperialist plunder in the Asia Pacific, while the People’s Summit will be organizing to fight back against these decisions and fight for the liberation of workers, women, and migrants in the Asia Pacific. As the people confront APEC in the streets this year, we are hoping to send a message that the international working class will not accept the continued destruction of our planet, worsening working and living conditions, and higher rates of exploitation. We want the leaders of APEC to know that wherever they go, the people will always fight back, and that there are many, many more of us than there are of them.
We are calling on everyone to join us July 29-30 at the Peoples’ Summit in Seattle!
