SKA rare atmospheric formation surprised hundreds of beachgoers on the northern coast of São Paulo last Sunday (29). A huge roll cloud, also known as a roll cloud, advanced over beaches such as Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde, Esposende, Ovar and Figueira da Foz, drawing the attention — and fear — of those enjoying the intense heat of the weekend.
The cloud, which stretched horizontally for several kilometers, suddenly appeared in the sky, accompanied by gusts of wind that lifted sand and dragged umbrellas
According to meteorology experts, a roll cloud is a rare formation that occurs when masses of cold and hot air are under specific conditions, such as cold fronts or intense sea breezes. The hot air rises, condenses, and forms this continuous, tubular structure that appears to "rotate" on itself.
In Portugal, events like this are rare.

Clouds, to almost everyone, have some meaning. But to you as a pilot, clouds are your weather "signposts in the sky." They give you an indication of air motion, stability, and moisture. Clouds help you visualize weather conditions and potential weather hazards you might encounter in flight.
As a parcel of air rises, it cools. Cooler air can support less water vapour and so, as the air cools, the relative humidity of the air increases. The temperature at which the air humidity reaches 100% is known as the Dew Point. At this point the air is said to be saturated. As the temperature continues to fall, the excess water vapour that the now saturated air contains condenses to form water droplets or ice particles. Clouds therefore form when the relative humidity of a parcel of air reaches 100%.

ORPolar stratospheric clouds (PSCs), also known as nacreous clouds, form in the winter polar stratosphere at altitudes of 15 to 25 kilometers. They occur at extremely low temperatures, around −78°C or colder. Unlike typical clouds, PSCs are composed of ice crystals and supercooled droplets of nitric acid and water. These clouds play a critical role in the depletion of the ozone layer by providing a surface for chemical reactions that release chlorine and bromine compounds, which destroy ozone molecules. PSCs are also known for their iridescent, colorful appearance when illuminated by sunlight.
