📍Brick and Mortar business KEEP YOUR LOCATION ON!!! ​Here are the steps to use the new Instagram Maps feature, as I explain in this reel: ⚙️​Open your Instagram Profile and go to Settings: From your profile page, tap the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner to open the menu. Then, tap on "Settings and privacy." 🔎​Navigate to Location Sharing: Scroll down the Settings menu until you find the "Who can see your content" section. Tap on "Story, live and location." 🔭​Manage Location Sharing: Under "Location sharing," tap on "Instagram map." 📝​Select Your Sharing Audience: A pop-up will appear titled "Who can see your location." Here you can select who you want to share your location with. The options are: 💚​Friends 💚​Close Friends 💚​Only these friends (you can select specific people) 🙅‍♀️No one (don't share location) 🚫 Turn Off Location Sharing (Optional): If you are currently sharing your location and want to turn it off, you can select "No one." A prompt will ask you for how long you'd like to turn off location sharing (3 hours, 24 hours, or Until you turn it back on). 🗺​Explore the Map: Once you've set your preferences, you can view the map. The map shows you where your friends and other public accounts are located. You can zoom in and out to see different regions and locations. 🪟​View a Friend's Location or Find a Business you follow: The map displays a cluster of profile pictures and posts. Tap on a cluster to see what people/profiles in that area have shared. You can then tap on an individual photo to view their post or story. What do you think? What you need to know about IG new map feature and how to use it safely. 🗺️ 👀 HOW TO TURN YOUR LOCATION SHARING OFF: 1. Access the Map: Open the Instagram app, go to your Direct Messages (DM) inbox, and tap the map icon at the top.  2. Open Settings: Tap the gear icon (or settings icon) on the map.  3. Choose Location Sharing Options: You can choose to share your location with “No one”, “Friends”, “Close Friends”, or select specific individuals. Only share your location with close trusted friends & family. 4. Confirm: Tap “Done” or “Share” to save your changes. 
 ‼️IMPORTANT TO KNOW: • If you use location sharing, your location is updated whenever you open the app or return to the app if it’s been running in the background. You can turn off location sharing at any time. • You can choose to not share location in specific places or with specific people. (DO NOT share the location of your home or places you visit regularly). HOW TO TURN OFF SPECIFIC LOCATIONS: 1. Tap Messages in the top right of Feed. 2. Tap Map at the top of your inbox. 3. Tap Settings in the top right. 4. Tap Options in the top right, then tap Hide places. From here, you can: Add a hidden place. Tap Add in the top right, drag the pin around the map to set a location for your hidden place, decide how large of an area you want to hide, then tap Next in the top right. Enter a name for your place and tap Done in the top right to save your hidden place. •Update or delete an existing hidden place: Tap an existing hidden place to update its location, radius or place name, or delete the place. ⚠️ I never share my location in real time. This includes posting pics or stories with identifying spots, and now this new map feature. If you use it, use with caution. #safetytips #safety #virtualsafety #onlinesafety #maps #igmaps

I’m a nav nerd! Because of this, you may have noticed two types of grid lines in this map. The red lines are “Township & Range”. They are used by surveyors and municipal agencies, not really for land nav. We’re using the tan lines (lol), which are “UTM Lines”. They are more closely oriented to true north, and used by navigators and military personnel across the globe. I always download my maps at 1:24000-1:25000 scale directly from the good folks at the @usgs so they have a ton of data!
