REA shocking incident has surfaced from Virar during the municipal elections held on January 15, 2026. A candidate recorded a video from inside a polling booth, claiming to expose a serious discrepancy in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). According to him, his allotted position was unexpectedly shifted from Machine 2 to Machine 1 without any prior announcement, creating confusion among voters.
The now-viral footage shows the candidate confronting officials and demanding an explanation for the sudden change. Although filming inside a polling booth is strictly prohibited under election rules, the candidate justified his action, stating that it was necessary to document what he alleges could be a case of tampering or mismanagement.
This controversy comes amid reports of multiple EVM glitches and voting delays of up to three hours in several Virar wards, further intensifying public concern. As of January 16, 2026, the Election Commission and local authorities have launched an investigation into both the alleged machine repositioning and the security breach.
Opposition leaders have seized upon the video, calling it evidence of systemic failure in the Vasai–Virar election process, while officials face mounting pressure to provide transparency and restore voter confidence.
