Just 45 min by car or 1h by train from Zurich. Easy to reach, easy to explore: vertical cliffs diving into turquoise water, car-free villages, and tunnels cut right through the mountains on the scenic drive.

• Seerenbachfälle – 585 m, one of Switzerland’s highest waterfalls, reached by an easy lakeside path from Weesen
• Quinten – a hidden, car-free village accessible only by boat or hike, with a Mediterranean microclimate (yes, even figs and grapes grow here!)
• On the water – kayak, paddleboard, or swim under sheer limestone walls.
• Hikes – Weesen–Quinten trail along the lake or the climb from Walenstadt up to Paxmal, a mosaic-covered temple with epic views
• Road trip – the route hugs cliffs, cuts through rock tunnels, and surprises you with sudden cave openings and dramatic viewpoints
It’s one of the most accessible “hidden gems” lakes in Switzerland: fast to reach, yet still uncrowded compared to Lucerne or Brienz.
