I have my first solo pro race tomorrow… and this is the strategy I’m counting on to carry me through those 6kg wallballs 🤞🏻 😂 I learned this from the 🐐 Meg Jacoby a few months back and have been using it ever since. It’s simple: Set 1 - 16 wallballs Set 2 - 15 wallballs Set 3 - 14 wallballs Set 4 - 13 wallballs Set 5 - 12 wallballs Set 6 - 11 wallballs Set 7 - 10 wallballs Set 8 - 9 wallballs … and that’s 100 wallballs done. Try to keep rest in between sets as short as possible. ✨✨ It WORKS because 1/ it’s a descending ladder (so it’s easier mentally) and 2/ 8 sets of wallballs is better than 10-12 random sets 🤣 Good luck to everyone racing in london this weekend!! Your breathing may be one of the reason your wall balls feel harder than they need to It’s pretty simple - Breathe in when you are offloaded. You are upright, not compressed, and it is easier to take a full breath and get more oxygen in. Breathe out when you are loaded with the ball. This is the most compressed position and the hardest time to inhale, so exhaling here makes more sense to me! This is my personal experience, and it works very well for me and definitely has served as a strategy when I’ve gone unbroken! The goal here is rhythm, not pure survival. And it can feel counterintuitive initially.. especially to me who has always practiced weightlifting (where you’re taught not to breathe out at the bottom of a squat). In my experience, dialling in your breathing rhythm: • Helps you stay calm under fatigue • Acts as a mental anchor late in the race • Improves throw accuracy, I find it enhances focus when you’re on pain! • Reduces tension and no-reps Tension does not support performance. Focus on efficient reps from the start. ✔️On wall balls: stay relaxed in the shoulders, especially if they tend to fatigue early. Breathe, use your legs, and avoid over-throwing the ball. Smooth is fast. ✔️On box jump-overs: land low, stay compact, and slide down the box to minimize unnecessary impact and wasted energy. Small adjustments make a big difference over this many reps. ✔️For box step-overs, there are three ways to carry the ball. Choose the option that feels most efficient for you – or switch between two or all three to manage fatigue and keep moving consistently. Move smart. Stay composed. START SQUATTING BEFORE YOU CATCH THE BALL✨ -catching the ball in the lower part of the squat allows you to take advantage of that momentum for a huge drive into the next rep, rather than splitting it into sections: throw-catch-squat-throw, which will ultimately slow you down, it also reduces the fatigue on the arms by not taking the impact at the top of the movement! 2. DROP THE ARMS IN-BETWEEN EACH REP✨ -Keeping your arms straight up creates constant tension throughout your shoulders… not efficient! Drop the arms in between each rep to give them a little break and help create a better flowing rhythm when catching and throwing the ball.. you’ve got to do 100 of these, no need to work harder than you need to✨ *disclaimer, I’m still very much so a beginner to this whole hyrox thing, and definitely not an expert- but these tips helped for me massively on race day! 🥳 #hyroxtips #wallballtips #personaltrainer #hyrox #wallballs
