The differences between VHF and UHF wireless Mic. VHF (Very High Frequency) VHF Mics systems uses frequencies from two distinct ranges The VHF low ranges system can transmit in the range of 49.81 - 49.90 MHz (49,000,000hertz seems large but is on the low side and subject to interference) The next range is 150 - 216MHz range these are less susceptible to Radio Frequency Interference and other noise interference. UHF (Ultra High Frequency) This is more expensive but more stable, UHF systems ranges from 400-470MHz and 900-950 MHz This allows more power to be used at these higher frequencies, making it less likely that any noise will creep into the UHF system Another important feature of UHF are that more than one UHF mics can be used at a time because the broadcast frequencies are separated. Most wireless mic manufacturers anticipated the reallocation and no longer produce wireless systems that transmit in the 700MHz band. The differences between VHF and UHF wireless mic systems relate to bandwidth, flexibility, power, multi path reception, and cost. Because the VHF bandwidth is far narrower than UHF, there is much less room for available frequencies. This limit both its use in large metropolitan areas, where the spectrum is crowded with VHF TV and FM radio stations, and its flexibility in operating a number of wireless systems simultaneously. Therefore, using low-band VHF wireless systems is not recommended because the band is prone to interference from many users.
