Did you know our hands hold the key to good health? Mudrā is a Sanskrit term meaning gesture. In Indian traditions, hand mudrās have long been used as practical tools to support balance in the body and mind. In yoga, each finger corresponds to one of the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space. By engaging specific fingers, mudrās help restore equilibrium when this balance is disturbed. How to practise Prāṇa Mudrā: Touch the tips of your thumb to the tips of your ring finger and little finger with both hands. Sit comfortably and focus on your breath. Prāṇa Mudrā is traditionally associated with vitality. It supports the flow of prāṇa, known as Qi in Chinese medicine, and is practised to counter fatigue, support strength and immunity, strengthen the eyes, and help with skin issues, numbness, muscle cramps, leg pain, and inflammation. Regular practice is also said to ease tension, irritability, anger, and envy, and to enhance the effects of other mudrās by improving the flow of prāṇa throughout the body. This marks the beginning of Hands That Heal, my series focused on hand mudrās and their role in everyday well-being.
