And I bet you’re not doing it... You’re not the only one....I meet SO many people at Candle Making Classes & Makers Markets that aren’t also... It’s trimming your wick, let me tell you why you should be doing it - 🩶 a longer wick gives a larger flame 🩶 a larger flame causes your wick to dance, which can lead to that unsightly black soot around the inside of your candle jar 🩶 a larger flame also makes the wax gets hotter so your candle burns faster meaning it doesn’t last as long So, start tonight... Simply trim your wick to 0.5cm EVERY time before you light your candle, then the wick will burn more efficiently make your candle last longer, therefore save you money... Share with your scent bestie who needs to know this too 🩶

If you’re going to light her… light her properly 🕯️✨ The first burn matters more than you think. Always let your candle melt right out to the edges before blowing it out. Why? Because wax has memory. If you blow it out too early, it can create a tunnel and once a candle starts tunnelling, it’s hard to fix (and we don’t do wasted wax around here). Burning to a full melt pool means: • An even, clean burn • No tunnelling • Maximum scent throw • The longest possible life for your candle Slow down. Let her pool. Enjoy her 🤍

Common candle mistakes you might be making🕯️ A few small habits can make a big difference in how your candle burns and how long it lasts. Here are some of the most common mistakes we see, and how to avoid them: • Not burning your candle long enough the first time Your first burn should allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges to prevent tunnelling. • Forgetting to trim the wick Trim your wick to around 5mm before each burn to keep the flame clean and steady. • Burning for too long We recommend burning your candle for no more than 3-4 hours at a time. • Burning in a drafty area Drafts can cause uneven burning and smoking. Save this for the next time you light your candle ✨

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but your candle isn’t burning well because you’re not trimming your wick correctly. 🫢 . . Trimming your candle wick before every burn can make a HUGE difference… Here’s why: ✨Safety First: A shorter wick prevents high flames and reduces the risk for uneven burning. ✨Longer-Lasting Candles: Keeping your wick trimmed helps your candle burn slower AND more evenly, so you can enjoy it longer. 😊 ✨Cleaner Burn: Less smoke means your candle smells better and your home is not filled with smoke! HOW TO TRIM: ✨ Use a wick trimmer (or scissors) to cut the wick to about 1/4 inch #wicktrimming #cleanburningcandles #coconutsoycandles

The difference between a good candle burn and a bad one often comes down to one simple step: trimming your wick. . A properly trimmed wick (about ¼ inch) helps your candle burn cleaner, slower, and more evenly while preventing soot and overly large flames. . When the wick is too long, the flame burns too hot, creates smoke, and can shorten the life of your candle. . ✨ Pro tip from a candle maker: always trim your wick before every burn for the best scent throw and a longer-lasting candle. . . #candles #candletips #candlemaking #torontocandles #cleancandles

A little something new from Warm Ritual Co. ✨ These are wickless candles, designed for candle warmers instead of a flame. Without the heat from a wick, I’m able to pour them with a higher percentage of fragrance oil, allowing the scent to slowly bloom as it warms. Same cozy scents, just a different ritual. If you use a candle warmer at home, simply choose the wickless option at checkout. 🕯️

If your candle is tunnelling, sooting, or burning too hot, the issue is often the wick — not your wax or fragrance. A tiny change in wick size or type can completely shift how your candle performs. Here’s the surface-level technical truth: • Too small a wick = weak flame, tunnelling, wasted wax. • Too large a wick = high flame, fast burn, excess soot. • Different fragrance loads can affect how hot the candle burns. • Jar diameter matters — wider jars usually need stronger wicks. Before scrapping a scent or blaming your wax, test one size up or down in the same container. Keep notes. Burn for at least 2–3 hours per test. Watch the melt pool, flame height, and jar temperature. Candle making isn’t just creativity — it’s controlled experimentation. Comment “candle” if you’re ready to take your testing a little more seriously and level up your results.

I was strugglingggg with candle tunneling and couldn’t figure out why my burn wasn’t pooling evenly… until I realized I was doing a few of these things wrong 😅 If your candles keep burning straight down the middle, check this: 1. Your wick is too small Soy wax candles typically require specialized, rigid cotton wicks—such as ECO, HTP, or CD series—to ensure a full melt pool and prevent tunneling. 2. Your jar is wider than you think Wick charts go by INNER diameter — not outer. 3.5”+ vessels usually need double wicks to prevent tunneling. 3. Your first burn wasn’t long enough Rule of thumb: 1 hour per inch of diameter So a 3.5–4” candle needs a 4 hour first burn to set the melt pool. 4. Your fragrance load is too high Too much oil can make wax harder to burn properly. Sweet spot for soy is usually 7–9%. 5. You’re not trimming your wick Always trim to ¼ inch before every burn. Long wicks = big flame, soot, and uneven melting. 6. Your candle didn’t cure long enough Soy wax needs time to set up. Minimum 7 days, ideally 10–14 days for the best burn + hot throw. ✨ Bonus: Wick count matters • 1 wick = ~2.5–3.25” • 2 wicks = ~3.5–4.5” • 3 wicks = 5”+ only (anything smaller is basically a bonfire) Candle testing is humbling but we learn 🔥 Save this if you’re a candle maker or a candle lover 💛 Share this if your friend is facing the same issue in their candle-making journey 💛 #learning #virals #education #info #scentedcandles
