BUA freeze is coming. So I tested four different ways people try to protect their outdoor faucets.
Most homes (including mine) have a
standard spigot, where the valve that holds water sits outside the wall.
That detail matters more than most people realize.
-Foam covers help slow heat loss.
-Freeze Misers drain water before it can freeze.
-Frost-free faucets move the valve inside the house entirely.
They’re not the same solution, they solve different parts of the problem.
If your valve is outside the wall, a cover helps, but it doesn’t change the risk.
Before this freeze, remove hoses, shut off water from the inside if you can, and drain the line. Hope this helps, talk soon!
