I battle every day w/ the excuses my mind taunts me w/ but then I remind myself of the little girl in middle school, who woke up extra early on school mornings before the sun came up, busted out sets of push-ups & jump rope, then sprinted down the street to the beach to watch sunrise ☀️ All bc I wanted to become a little stronger, a little faster & a little better at the sports I played. Little did that girl know she was setting her future self up for success 💪🏼 I reflect back & watch myself lifting w/ a c-collar on, a diaper on my ass, & a cath bag hangin, so fragile, so vulnerable yet so fucking hungry to take it all back & more‼️ Jaw clenched, grinding through the pain reminding myself, “this isn’t forever & you gotta just keep going.” So to the little girl within me, that always said, “I can do anything.” You’re fucking right we can, & we are‼️ This is for you. 8️⃣ Hacks Below 👇🏻 I’ve been combining running and lifting for years and I’m honestly shocked by how many people think you have to choose one or the other… they both really go hand in hand So here are the 8 game-changing hacks I use to run faster AND lift heavier at the same time and I hope they help you: 1️⃣Schedule your hardest lifting sessions on easy run days Your legs recover faster when you’re moving at an easy pace instead of sitting around. 2️⃣Eat carbs 2 hours before lifting, protein 30 minutes after running Strategic nutrient timing fuels both workouts without making you feel sluggish. 3️⃣Do your speed work on the same days as upper body lifting Both require maximum nervous system output - combine them instead of spreading fatigue across the week. 4️⃣Sleep 8+ hours when training both Your body is working twice as hard and needs the extra recovery time to adapt. 5️⃣Run immediately after leg day (easy pace only) Active recovery flushes out metabolic waste and reduces next-day soreness. 6️⃣Use caffeine strategically - only before your hardest session of the day Save it for when you really need the boost instead of building tolerance. 7️⃣Track both running pace AND lifting volume weekly You can’t improve what you don’t measure - progress in both requires data. 8️⃣Plan deload weeks for both simultaneously Your nervous system doesn’t distinguish between running stress and lifting stress. The truth is, most people fail at hybrid training because they treat running and lifting as separate sports, but actually they are both just different ways to stress your body - and your body adapts to stress.
