The easiest way to compost? In-bed vermicomposting. Worms are smart, and they are hard workers. Put them to work making worm castings for your garden. Having in-bed vermicomposting bins in all of my beds has been a game-changer for my garden. The soil is happy. It's so easy to run outside and put kitchen scraps in one of the bins. I don't have to wait until I have enough to heat up my big compost pile. Want my free how-to guide? Comment SEND, and it's yours. https://urls.grow.me/DbDkEnxal

📌 SAVE THIS FOR LATER & give me a follow to learn along with me! 🫶🏻 Vermicomposting 🪱🌱 Vermicomposting is the process of using composting worms (like red wigglers) to break down kitchen scraps and organic material into nutrient-rich worm castings — one of the most powerful natural fertilizers you can make at home. Instead of sending food waste to the landfill, worms transform it into living soil that feeds your garden from the ground up. Benefits of Vermicomposting: 1️⃣ Creates nutrient-dense worm castings packed with beneficial microbes 2️⃣ Improves soil structure, aeration, and water retention 3️⃣ Reduces household food waste naturally 4️⃣ Produces a gentle, slow-release fertilizer that won’t burn plants 5️⃣ Boosts plant growth, root development, and overall garden health It’s low-maintenance, space-efficient, and perfect for homesteaders, gardeners, and anyone wanting healthier soil naturally. Composting Series: Part 1 Plastic Free directly in Soil Vermicompost Tips! Pots that already have holes in the sides like strawberry pots and larger orchid pots will save you the step of drilling! If you live somewhere where the ground freezes, you’ll want to remove and empty these by adding the compost to your garden before Winter and storing the pots somewhere safe so they don’t freeze and crack. Good things to add to Vermicompost: Fruit and Vegetable scraps Garden clippings and weeds Shredded paper Eggshells -crush first Coffee grounds What not to add: Oily or processed foods Meats Dairy Plastic or shiny paper Metals or any materials that won’t break down Excessive amounts of citrus scraps #composting #vermicomposting #naturalgardening

Worm composting directly in the garden bed simplifies vermicomposting. Want to learn more? Comment "GUIDE," and I’ll send you a link to these bins and my resources on how to do it. This includes guides on getting started and feeding worms, along with an extensive FAQ to help you understand the process. If you live in the low desert, now is the perfect time to add them to your beds. In-bed vermicomposting solves the problem of what to do with worms during extreme hot and cold. For example, vermicomposting in hot-weather areas like the low desert of Arizona is difficult unless you bring the worms inside during the summer months. With in-bed vermicomposting, the worms burrow deeper in the beds during the heat of an Arizona summer and then emerge again in the fall. Worm castings in the garden help plants grow larger and stronger. They also get more and better-quality flowers, fruit, and vegetables. It can also increase a plant’s resilience to pests, drought, heat, disease, and other stress. #vermicompost #wormcastings #inbedvermicomposting #redwigglers #compost

Don’t throw your biodegradables in the trash when you can easily compost them inside or outside! The majority of my decomposition is done by earthworms/night crawlers, red wrigglers, and black soldier fly larvae, which makes super nutrient-dense soil, aerates the subsurface, and gives you a constantly feed supply for chickens, ducks, etc. #composting #vermicompost #gardening #homesteading #cooking

🚨 NOT AN AD, JUST LOVE THE WORM FARM 🚨 Don’t have enough space to compost? 👀 No garden? Small flat? No outdoor bin? No more excuses… I’ve got a solution 😁 This is my new worm farm, and honestly it might be the easiest way to compost food waste at home. I chose this one from @wiggly.wigglers for two reasons: 1️⃣ It’s super functional 2️⃣ It’s devilishly good looking 🤷🏻‍♂️ The kit comes with everything you need to start vermicomposting straight away (except the food scraps… but don’t worry, I produce plenty of those). Worms are one of nature’s greatest decomposers, working alongside bacteria and fungi to break down organic matter. A worm farm simply recreates what happens on a forest floor: 🌿 Bedding replaces soil 🍎 Food scraps mimic fallen fruit and leaves 🪱 Worms and microbes do the rest Inside this small container, they transform food waste into: • vermicompost (an incredibly rich compost for soil health) • worm tea (a liquid fertiliser perfect for houseplants and gardens) So even if you live in a flat, you can still recycle food waste and build living soil. And just to be clear… this is not an ad. Nobody asked me to post this. I just REEEALLY like this worm farm and have been eyeing it up for ages 😜 Share with a friend who says they don’t have space to compost and follow @generation.soil for more composting tips 🪱 #wormfarm #vermicomposting #compostingathome #foodwaste

Worms are one of the clearest signs that a soil system is alive. In the soil food web, they’re powerful recyclers—turning waste into nutrient-dense worm castings that plants and microbes love. Benefits of worm composting: • Improves soil structure and aeration • Adds beneficial microbes • Creates nutrient-rich castings • Helps soil hold water • Turns waste into fertility These pumpkins came from a neighbor who used them as decorations. I meant to ferment them into liquid fertilizer… but time got away from me. No problem. Rotten pumpkins make an incredible buffet for the worms. My worm bin is an open-bottom system, so the worms can come and go as they please. They roam the yard, but always return when fresh organic matter shows up. Which means worm castings are almost always on deck. Just feeding the soil food web. 🪱🌱 #cultivatingclassics #livingsoil #soilfoodweb #vermicompost #regenerativegardening
