The number one thing I see beginner gardeners doing 🙈 that breaks my heart a little 💔, is starting to seed or plant too early! All that effort and excitement only to watch their plants struggle, and possibly even die from lack of space and natural sunlight. When it comes to seed starting, timing is everything! So, here are some tips 👇 to improve your chances of success by starting at the right time for your unique climate: ⭐️ In general, the only thing you should be starting in January or early February is herbs and some flowers - unless you live in a year-round warm climate ⭐️ Start anything edible 6-8 weeks before your outdoor planting date - unless you have a season extension like a greenhouse. Otherwise, you may get stuck with overgrown plants looking for more space to grow, before it’s actually safe to plant them outdoors. ⭐️ Start COOL Season veggies first - kale, lettuce, spinach, swiss chard, onions - as they will be the first to be planted outdoors. ⭐️DO NOT start large WARM Season veggies - zucchini, cucumbers, pumpkins, sunflowers, even tomatoes - in the middle of winter, unless you have a greenhouse. These plants germinate quickly and get big FAST, and will not tolerate extended periods under artificial lighting. Instead, start these plants about 4-6 weeks before your expected last frost date. ⭐️ Start tomatoes and peppers roughly 12-14 weeks before your last frost date if you have somewhere to keep them growing as they expand. If not, focus your efforts on growing plants that can be planted outdoors within 6-8 weeks from the seeding date, and consider buying your tomatoes and peppers from the garden store. ⭐️ Watch for signs of yellowing leaves, and stunted growth indicating that it’s time to transplant into a bigger pot. If the next pot size up cannot fit under your grow lights and it’s not time to plant outdoors yet, it means you started too early ☹️ If you’re unsure of what the safe “planting out dates” are in your climate, follow me here as I break these confusing timelines down with a simple and super easy-to-apply method no matter where you’re growing! #yycgardening #seedstarting #zone3 #urbangardening

Because it’s too hard to build your aerobic base and too easy to improve your speed. So you end up stuck in the middle… not getting faster and constantly feeling tired. The runners who actually improve follow a simple rule: • Most runs = Easy (Zone 2) • Some runs = Hard (intervals / speed work) This is why elite runners spend about 80% of their training running easy. ✅Hey #runnersofig let’s talk about the “Threshold realm” of running workout paces/intensity…specifically the less talked about #Zone3 and why at @higherrunning we call it “Uptempo.” For those racing marathons all-out in the 3-hour time range it’s going to be around your marathon race pace. For others it might be slightly faster. It’s a “Steady State” high end aerobic effort harder than Zone 2, but easier than the true Lactate Threshold (Zone 4). Others may call this more of the “Aerobic Threshold or LT1 or Ventilatory Threshold 1 etc.”. It can be performed as sets of longer intervals (ie 3 x 10-12min) or a continuous 30-45min that may even be a progression run from Zone 2 during a Long Run. Tomorrow I’ll be racing my 11th Grand Final as an elite (13th Grand Final when counting junior & u23). Joining the 11’s club @worldtriathlon . As I mentioned before, I wasn’t planning on racing the Grand Final as I needed a break. I even told the federation I wasn’t going to be ready to race, but when I saw I was still on the start list and realised my ranking was still high enough (without racing the last WTCS), @rd_murray convinced me to go for it. I called my coach and he told me that if I could accept any outcome, I should probably go for it. So here I am, feeling a bit uncertain. When I race, I want to race well. After the Olympics I pretty much took two weeks off, did some fun races and took training lightly. No plan, no goal, not much intensity. Yes, I’ll be fresh & have experience of lots of racing. 3 years ago I started taking cardio seriously! 👇 I started with 20 minutes of Zone 2 cardio on an elliptical. I enjoyed the energy boost that gave me. It got too easy. I wanted more. I made up this simple 2 exercise back and forth circuit I'm doing here in this video. I started racing myself several times a week, trying to finish it faster and faster. It became Zone 4 and my time improved steadily for 2 years from 23:00 minutes PR to my new PR of 17:30 minutes! This simple "race myself" approach made a huge difference! This is the healthiest I've ever been and the best I've ever felt. I'm never out of breath doing anything except hard cardio now. It's kind of freaky! You want the ultimate "biohack"? Increasing your VO2 max with harder cardio is the magic ticket. Nothing compares. How to start taking cardio seriously? Just do 20 minutes of easy Zone 2 cardio a few morings a week. You'll feel awesome afterward for hours! Instant gratification. It just keeps getting better and better if you keep building it! So build it, do it a little faster here and there and try to do more in less time!
