THNew mandatory nationally consistent child safety training is broader than child protection training and cover topics such as: creating a child safe culture in the organisation, developing child safe policies and procedures, and expectations for staff conduct including content on child protection, such as reporting obligations. It also centres on childrenโs rights, harm prevention, and promoting the safety, health, and wellbeing of children within that organisation. It has an emphasis on building staff and the education and care serviceโs knowledge and capacity to understand and respond to childrenโs safety every day.
Approved providers will need to ensure that the following people complete the Foundation child safety training:
Persons with management or control of a service
Nominated supervisors
Persons in day-to-day charge of a service
Staff members
Volunteers, including students.
The new child safety training must be completed in Geccko โ the Australian Government Department of Educationโs online learning platform for the ECEC sector. You will need your own Geccko account so completions can be tracked correctly.
