After World War One Germany faced economic hardship and uncertainty. In the middle of this difficult period, Adi Dassler focused on a simple goal. He wanted to build a better shoe. Working by hand in his mother’s laundry room, he believed performance could be engineered. He experimented constantly with materials and designs. Rubber from old tires and hand hammered spikes became part of his early prototypes. Every athlete he met received a pair to test. Some ideas failed, but each attempt helped him improve the design further. The turning point arrived during the nineteen thirty six Olympics. Jesse Owens wore Dassler’s custom shoes while competing. His incredible performance and four gold medals brought global attention to the brand that would later become Adidas and change the sports world forever. Behind the success there was also conflict. Tension between Adi and his brother Rudolf eventually divided the family. Rudolf left and created Puma, starting one of the most famous rivalries in sportswear history and shaping the global athletic industry for decades. Save this video as your daily motivation guide. Adi Dassler built Adidas after losing everything, including his own brother. After World War II, the Dassler brothers’ partnership collapsed. His brother took Puma. Adi Dassler was left alone in a small German workshop, making shoes by hand with no distribution and no safety net. Most businesses die at that point. Adi rebuilt with one focus: athletes. He renamed the company Adidas and obsessed over performance. Lighter studs. Better grip. Constant feedback from players. His shoes appeared at the Olympics, then on World Cup winners. When global football exploded, Adidas was already embedded in the sport. This is one of the greatest brand comeback stories in business history. Today, Adidas has a market value near $40 billion. The split could have ended him. It sharpened him. When the partnership broke, the brand did not. Athlete-first thinking built a global empire. Adolf Dassler and Rudolf Dassler were brothers from a small town in Germany. In 1924, they founded the Dassler Brothers Sports Shoe Factory. Adi designed the shoes. Rudolf handled sales. By 1936, they convinced Jesse Owens to wear their spiked running shoes at the Berlin Olympics. Owens won four gold medals. Sales exploded to over 200,000 pairs. Then the war destroyed everything. Rudolf was drafted to fight. Adi stayed home. Rudolf believed Adi had engineered this to take control of the company. When Rudolf was captured by American soldiers, Adi reportedly made statements suggesting Rudolf was a Nazi. Rudolf was imprisoned for a year. When he returned, he retaliated. He told investigators that Adi had overseen Nazi weapons production at the factory. Adi was investigated but found not guilty. By 1948, the hatred was irreparable. They split the company. Adi kept the original factory and renamed it Adidas. Rudolf set up across the river and called it Puma. The 1954 FIFA World Cup became their first battlefield. Puma backed Hungary, the tournament favorites. Adi backed West Germany. Germany won wearing Adidas boots with revolutionary screw-in studs. Adidas gained international fame. By 1970, both companies formed the Pelé Pact— agreeing not to sponsor Pelé to avoid a bidding war. Puma broke the deal. They paid Pelé $120,000 to tie his Puma King shoes on camera before the quarterfinal kickoff. Millions watched. Brazil won. The shoes went viral. Rudolf died in 1974. Adi in 1978. They never reconciled. Today, Puma is worth $6 billion. Adidas is worth $43 billion. Two brothers built a multi-billion-dollar industry out of hatred. P.S.: Adidas and Puma didn’t build billion-dollar empires by making better shoes — they built them by owning attention through athletes and cultural moments. In 2026, the same strategy works on Instagram, and the barrier to entry is zero. This is a game changer. The new Adidas Supernova Rise 3 Adaptive isn’t a modification — it’s a rethink. Built with adaptive athletes from the ground up, designed to remove friction before the first step even happens. Easy step-in. Low-pressure lacing. A ride that prioritizes comfort without compromise. This is the latest in my ongoing commitment to working with neurodivergent and gamut communities, spending time with athletes whose experience continues to reshape how I think about performance, design, and what inclusion actually looks like in practice. Our committment to help create space, access, and representation where it matters is an ongoing responsibility. Because for some athletes, performance doesn’t start at pace — it starts at access. Thanks to @adidas @adidasus @fcb_canada tracy_otto (my hero) @havenfaithshepherd @chrisnikic @adidasrunning @littlemousew and many others. #adidas #SupernovaRise #AdaptiveAthlete #InclusiveDesign #Neurodiversity #Accessibility #SportForAll #PerformanceForAll
