RE🚨 Many of you have mentioned to me that you would not take a Covid-19 vaccine because it feels “rushed” or you’re worried about “long term effects”. Here is my response: this particular vaccine development process is happening quicker than any other due to: 1. The entire world utilizing manpower and resources, 2. The amount of funding, 3. The mRNA technology is easier and faster to manufacture, and 4. The death rate of Covid-19 is approx 1 in 200 people, so the need for this vaccine ASAP is extremely high. Covid vaccines are being developed in an organized and coordinated way that allows some stages of the vaccination development process to happen at the same time. This inevitably condenses the time needed to move forward. The expected and necessary standards of safety, quality, and effectiveness are not compromised or bypassed in this process. The risk of “long term effects” is unlikely. This vaccine, as an mRNA vaccine, is extremely fragile—hence the temperature requirements. At first, we were way more worried about it even being able to get to the cells and be effective than we are about it sticking around and causing harm in the future. It does not change your DNA. It tells your cells to create a protein that allows for an immune response to occur. The FDA will approve a safety profile for two years. The idea that the vaccine could lay dormant and have a latent effect after those two years would be extremely rare as it is not the same as the vaccines that can infiltrate the nervous system (also very rare instances, but for example: varicella). Any vaccine must undergo extensive clinical trials that satisfy robust international standards and numerous regulatory agencies and governing bodies. The opportunity for a vaccine to be authorized that does not meet the expected safety, efficacy, and quality standards simply does not exist.
