The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has released vision of a near midair disaster, involving skydivers in far north Queensland in September earlier this year. A light plane took off from Tully Airport, south of Cairns, on September 20 with 17 parachutists on board. The group had been planning on completing a 16-way formation jump filmed by a parachuting camera operator. However, when the first parachutist stepped up to the open roller door, the handle of his reserve parachute snagged, accidentally deployed and pulled him out of the plane, hitting another man on the way out. The quick-thinking parachuter used a hook knife to cut 11 lines from the reserve parachute before it tore free from the plane. #skydive #parachute #ATSB #Queensland

A new nightmare scenario unlocked. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has released footage from September 20, 2025, showing the moment a skydiver’s parachute wrapped around a plane wing in Far North Queensland. He was left hanging from the stabiliser — suspended in midair — before managing to cut himself free. Miraculously, he survived with only minor injuries. A terrifying reminder of how quickly the skies can turn unpredictable. #Australia #ATSB #Skydiving #AviationSafety #Queensland #BreakingFootage #SurvivalStory #IvogueTv #EverythingTrendy

A skydiving event in Queensland nearly turned fatal when a reserve parachute snagged on an aircraft wing mid-air, flinging a diver into the plane’s tail in a chaotic and terrifying sequence caught on video. 🛩️🪂🔥 Australia’s Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) released the footage as part of its investigation into the September 20 incident at the Big Ways at the Beach event near Tully Airport. Seventeen experienced parachutists were preparing for a 16-way formation jump from 15,000 feet when disaster struck. As the first jumper climbed out, the handle of his reserve parachute caught on a wing flap, instantly deploying the chute and slamming the diver into the aircraft’s horizontal stabilizer. The canopy then wrapped around the tailplane, causing another skydiver to fall unexpectedly as the scene spiraled out of control. Miraculously, the man managed to cut himself free with a knife while hanging from the aircraft, entering freefall before releasing his main parachute and landing safely. He suffered only minor injuries, an outcome investigators say could have been much worse. The ATSB noted the aircraft was improperly loaded, though clarified it was not a contributing factor in the accident. Still, the video underscores how even expert jumps can turn dangerous in seconds. Graphics released by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) show two close calls between passenger planes and workers on a runway at Melbourne Airport back in September 2023. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said Malaysia Airlines plane and a Bamboo Airways plane both overran a runway that had been temporarily shortened to allow for works. The ATSB said that no workers were injured, but that the jet blast from each aircraft “impacted runway unserviceability lights, works lights and marker cones at the works limit.” After the incidents, changes were implemented by Airservices Australia to make similar situations safer in the future, the ATSB said.

#Skydiving #Australien #Fallschirm #ZDFheute

SKYDIVING SCARIES: Australia’s transport safety regulator shared footage on Thursday, December 11, of a skydiver’s reserve parachute becoming snagged on a plane wing mid-air over Queensland. The video was released as part of the findings of an Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) investigation into a skydiving incident over Tully Airport on September 20. The parachute jump was part of the ‘Big Ways at the Beach’ event where experienced parachutists completed large group formations. The ATSB said 17 parachutists were on board, ready for a “16-way formation jump” from 15,000 feet. As the first parachutist climbed out of the aircraft to jump, the handle of his reserve parachute snagged on a wing flap, damaging the plane’s “horizontal stabiliser.” The footage shows multiple angles of the parachute being deployed and the man being flung from the aircraft, with the parachute then wrapping around the tailplane. Another parachutist fell from the plane in the process. While hanging from the plane, the man was able to cut himself free with a knife, sending himself into freefall. He released his main parachute and landed safely, sustaining only minor injuries from the incident. The final report found the aircraft was not loaded properly, though it clarified that was not a cause of the accident. Australian Transport Safety Bureau via Storyful
