DRWe start off drinking alcohol because it’s what everyone is doing. We fit in. We are young and don’t know any better.
Can you relate?
For a while after getting #sober, I beat myself up over the choices I had made around drinking…. I really only meant well. It felt like failure to be someone who had lost control of my alcohol use and to feel like there was something wrong with me for being different.
But alcohol is an addictive substance, not just to those with a family history of addiction, but to anyone who continues to use it. This is a scientific fact!
There is so much FEAR around letting go of alcohol. Fear of how it will affect our friendships and relationships, fear of not being able to succeed, fear of temptation. But this weekend I heard a wise quote… “there is no courage without fear”. Fear must exist. There’s no way around it.
But fear is often hiding really good things on the other side. It’s okay to feel the fear and do it anyway. Recognize the fear. Accept the fear. And DO IT ANYWAY! I have never heard anyone say they regretted taking a break from alcohol. Have you?
