(Psst: there’s still time for y’all to do it this summer!!) 1️⃣ ☎️called the hotel directly, they had some rooms that weren’t showing on their website! And they were sooo helpful! @barharborinn1887 2️⃣ ✈️flew into Bangor, Maine (so easy!) @flybgr 3️⃣ 🛥️took a water taxi out to Little Cranberry Island and channeled our best Martha Stewart at @islesforddock … y’all, it was epic. 4️⃣🥾 “Hiked” @acadianps to the @jordanpondhouse to get the legendary popovers! 🫠🫠🫠 5️⃣ ⛵️booked the @downeast_windjammer_cruises for a sunset cruise with the fam! Even had to wear sweaters in July!!!! 6️⃣ 🦞ate the best lobster rolls at The Happy Clam Shack & @stewmansdowntown 🧳 we did have to change hotels … and y’all it was accidentally just as epic, stay tuned for that info! ❤️ all in all … we left our hearts in Maine! 🤦‍♀️ who else never plans in advance? Details on my hike 👇 I parked at the Jordan Pond North Parking Lot (you can also park at the Jordan Pond House) and began the loop counter-clockwise. This means I hit the wooden plank section and then the rocky section, the beach and then the flat, sandy footing along wooded trails, all the while seeing beautiful views! Acadia Charter Company (@acadia_charter_company) offers charters for groups of up to 6, with several trip options to choose from — including the perfect sunset cruise. Plus you can bring your own food & drinks on board! THE ULTIMATE BAR HARBOR LIST Just 4.5 hours north of Boston is a beautiful place called Mount Desert Island. Here is a list of some of the things you can do up there: +Hike or drive up Cadillac Mountain (you will need a reservation, make it online) +Visit the cave at the Schooner Head Overlook (must go at low tide) +Visit Thunder Hole (an hour or two before high tide, not pictured) +Explore gardens like the Azalea Garden or Wild Gardens of Acadia +Bike, walk or ride a horse on the Carriage Trails, your halfway point is the Jordan Pond House, good for a pee break, water refill and popover snack (need a reservation for the popover) +Visit ANY lobster pound… we went to Charlotte’s because my niece is named Charlotte and it was a blessing, they had squirt guns +The Claremont Hotel has a cute little bar out back right on the water (shout out to @erinovalle for this rec) +Get Maine blueberry pie and then get it again +BEACHES: swim where you want but Sand Beach is nice, though it gets busy busy +Nature cruises are good to see wildlife +Explore Bar Harbor: home to shopping, restaurants, bars and dope sunsets HIKING: I have only hiked Precipice & Beehive Trail, the Precipice is usually closed in the summer time because there’s a bird that might attack you during that time and you could fall off a cliff because of it (this is what a tour guide told me). Both hikes are SCARY and NOT GOOD FOR DOGS. I did see children… but I’m not sure I would take a kid on this hike… I think I’d be telling them to “be careful” every second and anxiety would be high. BUT I LOVED EVERY MINUTE of both hikes and would do them again. You have to be ok with climbing up ladders attached to a cliff on the side of a mountain. The end. The most epic summer hike in Acadia National Park Would you hike up the side of a cliff, climb up dozens of precarious metal rugs, and cross narrow cliff-side ledges to see these views? ✅ SAVE this for your next trip to Acadia National Park, and FOLLOW @gwynandami for more @visitmaine adventure itineraries #ad 🍯 BEEHIVE LOOP TRAIL 📏 Length: 1.5 miles 📈 Elevation gain: 508 feet PRO TIP: You can attempt this hike two ways. See option 1 for the challenging route, and option 2 for the easier route. 1️⃣ OPTION 1 (challenging): Hike this loop counter clockwise. The first portion of the hike will take up up the steep and exposed part of the trail before reaching the top of the beehive. 2️⃣ OPTION 2 (easier): Hike this trail clockwise up the “backside” of the beehive. Once you get to the top, take in the views, then turn around and hike down the exact same way you came up. You’ll skip the exposed part of the hike entirely! ⚠️ SAFETY: The first portion of this hike (option 1) is along the side of a cliff, and is not suitable for people afraid of heights, young children, and pets; however, you can also hire a registered Maine trail guide to help you navigate this challenging terrain. 🦅 The Precipice Trail is another popular and challenging hike in Acadia National Park; however, it is closed during the summer to preserve sensitive falcon nesting habitat. A palate cleanser for anyone who needs it. And no, not telling you where this is BECAUSE IT IS A SECRET. And one of the downsides of Instagram-driven tourism (which I know I participate in) is that it leads to overtourism and the end of hidden gems. So this isn’t telling you to go to THIS SPOT. But go to Mount Desert Island because it’s truly one of the most stunning nature-filled places on earth. And Acadia National Park — like all our national parks — need our support right now! We’ve been going almost every summer since Willa was born 17 years ago. And Sarah has been coming almost every summer since she was 5. There’s no place like it for hiking, biking, swimming, stargazing, and of course lobster. And I guess boating and hoping to spot @marthastewart48 if that’s your jam. This spot is just one highlight. (And yes, it’s a legal spot although people in the comments will say it’s not. It is. I promise.
