Ever wonder how I safely ride an escalator without seeing the steps? Honestly, they used to be the scariest part of going out. Stepping onto moving stairs when you can't see them is seriously nerve-wracking! But I've been practicing this "foot-feel" trick to know exactly when the step flattens out at the top so I don't trip. I can’t wait to surprise my friend with the gift soon! 🤍🐰 Part 4 is up next on my page! 👉 #accessibility #pov #blindbunny #heartwarming #lifeinchina #dailyvlog

Touchscreens are supposed to be effortless right? I think they were a mistake. From unwanted interactions, to distracted driving, to inaccessibility let’s chat about how touchscreens were a mistake. As a blind person, touchscreens negatively impact me many times throughout the day from appliances to elevators and everything in-between. What’s your biggest touchscreen frustration? The cold never bothered her anyways- but the sleeves did- lol ❄️ We let her choose by eye movements, by showing her 2 options and then letting her show which one she gravitates to. She chose Elsa BUT when we got in the dressing room, those sleeves weren’t working with us. Lolol so we had to pivot. Lol But proud of her for choosing what she likes!!!! #Disney #disneyparks #accessibility #disability #inclusion

We are so grateful to live in a city that offers such accessibility! @seattleopera goes above and beyond for their accessible performances, including live audio descriptions, Braille programs, and an interactive touch table in the lobby! Plus everybody who works there is SO NICE. Mr Maple rates it 10/10 and gave the experience his official “nap of approval” (that’s one relaxed pup!!) If you’re ever in Seattle and want to check out the amazing opera scene, call ahead to ensure you book an accessible performance! 👏👏👏 #ad #accessibility #blind #disabilityawareness

Booking theatre tickets. Should be easy, right? Welcome to the series where I show you how long it takes disabled people to do things versus non-disabled people. I’m Jenni and I’m disabled, and this is my non-disabled friend Beth, and we’re both trying to book tickets for @PaddingtonTheMusical Beth goes onto her phone, opens her ticketing app, finds the show, clicks to choose her seats, picks one and within 40 seconds she’s completed her booking and is ready to go. During that time, I haven’t even managed to find out how to book accessible seats. I go through the whole website trying to find where access tickets are. Eventually I find it but only because I already know which theatre it’s in and going to their website directly. I scroll through and finally find the access form I need to fill in. That process alone takes me six minutes, just to find out how to get tickets. Then I have to fill out a long access form, including detailed information and proof of my disability using my Access Card. If you don't already have an access card this whole scenario would take even longer. I get a confirmation email saying my application will take five days to be reviewed. It ended up taking three, but in that time, Beth could have seen the show already. After that, I still have to call the theatre access line to actually book suitable seats as a wheelchair user. It took me well over an hour of active work to make a booking and days of waiting in between. Same show. Very different experience. Accessibility should not be this complicated. Did this surprise you? It just shows how something that should be easy can be a massive task when you have a disability. If you’ve experienced this, or work in theatre or ticketing, I’d really love to hear your thoughts. And let me know what we should try next in the comments. #Accessibility #DisabledLife #TheatreAccess

In 2023, I became wheelchair dependent after a combination of disease progression and a brain injury. When we got home from the hospital, we started the process of asking for a ramp to be built at my school. The school was small (40 kids) At first we were told It would be too much money. We offered to pay. Then she said I would need to prove my need. (I am wheelchair dependent) Next, she tried to tell us that two teenage boys should lift me up and down 6 steps of stairs, multiple times a day. That was her solution. We said that wasn’t a safe option and didn’t preserve my dignity. There was more than this. Quite a bit actually. But at the end of the journey, she said she had to think of the needs of the other children. This is a school that prides itself on inclusion, but apparently, only when it’s easy. Inclusion when it’s hard is what actually matters. She also suggested I crawl up the steps. That isn’t doable. It’s hard enough at my sister’s school to transfer out and climb up two steps. 6 steps would be impossible. Plus they were steep. The fight for accessibility and inclusion still is continuing in 2026. This particular fight reminded me of the capitol craw in 1990. #Accessibility #inclusion #disability #wheelchair #fyp
