She could’ve cowered in embarrassment. This age is tender. These girls are becoming so conscious of their bodies, so desperate to belong. But Campbell chose honesty instead. She told her new friends why her eyes cross and how her brain works. And instead of marking her as different—it became the very thing that connected them. The truth has a way of doing that. You cant be embarrassed by something you don’t call bad. Campbell navigated this moment with ease because she’s been taught that the ways she differs are worthy—not wrong. Now a lunch table of girls knows that too. The language we give our children becomes the voice they most listen to. Let your words be kind. Let your acceptance be loud. #neurodiverse #actuallyautistic #disabilitysupport #autismcommunity

People like to point out “contradictions” in autism… but most of the time, they’re not actually “contradictions”…they’re ✨complexities✨ A lot of autistic traits are contextual and depend on things like control, sensory input, and interest. ▪️Loud environments can feel overwhelming when you don’t control them… but being loud yourself IS within your own control. ▪️Routines feel safe when they’re self-directed… but demands from others can feel intrusive. ▪️Memory isn’t necessarily “good” or “bad”… it’s often tied to what your brain tags as important. “Complexities” start making more sense when you can see the patterns. 🩷 #autism #autistic #AutismAcceptance #autismawareness #neurodivergent

When a client says “what if you assess me and I’m not autistic” — here’s what’s actually running through my mind. 1️⃣ She doesn’t know how rare it actually is to walk away without a diagnosis. By the time a woman has done enough research to seek an assessment, identified with the experience enough to book it, and sat in that chair — the vast majority of the time, there’s something there. The fear of being told she’s not autistic is almost always bigger than the reality. 2️⃣ She’s not scared of the assessment. She’s scared of losing the only explanation that has ever made sense. By the time a woman sits in front of me, she’s dug deep and really starting to think things fit. The fear isn’t about the assessment. It’s about what it would mean to lose a framework that finally makes some sense. 3️⃣ She thinks being told she’s not autistic means she made it up. She didn’t. It doesn’t mean nothing is wrong, and it doesn’t mean she’s been imagining things. It means we keep looking. The experience is real regardless of what the assessment finds. 4️⃣ She’s probably been doubting herself her whole life. This is almost never just about the assessment. It’s the latest version of a much older story — the one where she talks herself out of her own experience before anyone else gets the chance to. 5️⃣ What I’m actually thinking: she might not be autistic — she might be AuDHD. For a lot of the women I assess, ADHD isn’t even on their radar. They came for autism. But as I’m listening I’m already mapping both — because the parts of herself that make her doubt she’s autistic? They’re often the ADHD she didn’t know she had. AuDHD isn’t autism plus ADHD. It’s its own thing — and it changes everything. If this is the question that’s been keeping you from booking — I hope this helps. Questions about assessment? Drop them below. ❤️👇

For most of my life, I’ve been the sensible one. Polite. Easy-going. Turns out… I was masking and here’s what it looked like for me. 1. Being quiet and blending in. I learned early that not drawing attention to myself felt safest. So I tried not to stand out. Only spoke when I was absolutely sure on something. I was working overtime to be “invisible” so I wouldn’t be judged or questioned. 2. Rehearsing conversations and having scripts. Before social situations, I’d run through what I might say. Have a few safe conversations lined up and plan some responses to questions that might be asked. What I was doing was making sure I wouldn’t say anything “wrong” in the moment. 3. Being on the “periphery” of the group I’d go to the get together or the meeting, but I’d stay on the edges. I’d follow the conversation rather than initiating it. I felt safer observing than being in the middle of it all. And I’d wait for the perfect moment to speak. 4. Mimicking how others talk and behave I paid close attention to how people spoke. Their tone. Their expressions. So I could see how I was “supposed” to act. 5. Being the “good girl” Doing the “right” thing. Following the rules…exactly. Avoiding trouble at all costs. Not making a fuss. Because being “told off” wasn’t just uncomfortable — it caused intense anxiety and distress. For years, I thought this was just my personality. Now I know they were the ways I learned to navigate a world that felt overwhelming. The more I unlearn these habits, the more I realise I wasn’t “good” or “quiet”—I was masking trying to stay safe. If this feels familiar, you’re not imagining it. And you’re not alone. 💥 Not all autism looks the same — and many traits people consider “just their personality” are actually rare autism symptoms hiding in plain sight. ❤️‍🩹 Society pictures autism as one narrow stereotype. But many autistic people go undiagnosed for decades because their traits look “normal.” Missing the signs means missing the support. Here are 5 rare autism symptoms people never talk about: 1️⃣ Feeling physically ill after making a decision 👉 Not just “being indecisive” — many autistic people experience genuine nausea, panic, or shutdown when forced to choose, even between small things. The brain struggles to predict outcomes without enough data, making every choice feel dangerously uncertain. 2️⃣ Losing the ability to speak under stress 👉 Not just “going quiet” — some autistic people temporarily lose access to spoken language when overwhelmed. Words exist in their head but won’t come out. This is called situational mutism and it’s frequently mistaken for rudeness or stubbornness. 3️⃣ Feeling other people’s emotions physically 👉 Not just “being empathetic” — some autistic people absorb the emotional energy in a room as a literal physical sensation. Tension feels like pressure. Sadness feels heavy. It’s not sensitivity — it’s a nervous system without the usual filtering. 4️⃣ Memorizing exits in every room 👉 Not just “being cautious” — many autistic people instinctively map escape routes in unfamiliar spaces. It’s an automatic threat-response the brain runs to manage unpredictable environments. Most do it without realizing it’s not universal. 5️⃣ Laughing at the wrong moments 👉 Not just “dark humor” — when overwhelmed, the autistic nervous system sometimes releases stress through laughter at inappropriate times. It’s an involuntary response, not insensitivity, and it causes enormous shame and social misunderstanding. ❤️‍🩹 Final Thought: Autism isn’t always what you picture. For many — especially women and late-diagnosed adults — it hides behind traits the world calls weird, rude, or “too much.” Recognizing these signs isn’t about labels. It’s about finally understanding yourself. ❤️‍🩹 If this resonates, comment “That’s Me” and follow for more.
