Driving in Iceland is super simple, but this is one of the things that not many tourist know about. Luckily most of the two lane roundabouts can be found only in the capital area of Reykjavík, two in Selfoss and one in Akureyri. Outside of that, you will only have to drive straight for miles and maybe take an occasional turn or pull over by a waterfall or another scenic spot - nothing complicated 😅 Need a discount on camper or car in Iceland? Comment “rental” and I’ll send you a link. Follow for more tips and travel guides from Iceland. ✌🏻

Story time…👇🏻📚

After a monster drive from Egilsstadir to Akureyri, we finally reached our hotel… or so we thought. We circled the city center forever trying to find it (but that’s a whole other story). 😵
We finally checked in, grabbed our keys, headed to the room, scanned our key, and it swung open to a fully occupied room. Passports, cash, laptops, cameras… just sitting everywhere. 💵 💻 So obviously… we took it all.
Kidding. 😱

We ran back to the front desk, and they were so confused that they had to come see it themselves.

Eventually, it got sorted, and for all the chaos we endured… we were compensated exactly $0. 😭

A true 0/10 view!

AERODYNAMICS OF EXCESS: THE AKUREYRI PROJECT. The Pilot: Ryōyū Kobayashi. Olympic Champion. He is not skiing; he is flying a human fuselage. The Engineering: This is a custom-built "Mega-Kicker" in Hlíðarfjall, Iceland. Unlike FIS regulated hills (capped for safety), this ramp was designed purely for physics-breaking lift. The Sponsor: Observe the "Prada Linea Rossa" branding on the in-run. This is the intersection of high fashion and technical performance—where textile aerodynamics meet drag coefficients. The Data: Distance: 291 Meters (New World Record). Air Time: ~10 seconds. Top Speed: 107 km/h at takeoff. Standardization is for the masses. True innovation happens when you build your own mountain, ignore the judges, and rewrite the laws of physics. The Debate: Is this a sport, or a stunt? Should the FIS recognize records set on non-regulated terrain? Credits: Video Analysis for Educational Purposes Only. In April 2024, Japanese ski jumper Ryōyū Kobayashi achieved one of the most remarkable feats in modern ski jumping history. Taking on the challenging conditions at Akureyri, Iceland, Kobayashi launched himself off the ramp and soared an astonishing 291 meters through the air. This incredible distance represents nearly three football fields of sustained flight, a visualization that helps capture just how extraordinary this achievement truly was. What makes Kobayashi's accomplishment even more impressive is the context behind it. He had previously reached 253.5 meters, already an exceptional distance by any standard. However, rather than rest on that accomplishment, he pushed himself to go even further. The jump required not only exceptional physical ability but also extraordinary technical precision and mental courage. Every aspect had to align perfectly: the approach speed, the takeoff angle, body position during flight, and the ability to maintain composure while traveling through the air at extreme speeds. The 291-meter flight represents more than just a number in the record books. It symbolizes the relentless pursuit of excellence that defines elite athletes across all disciplines. Kobayashi's achievement, captured on video and sponsored by luxury brand Prada and energy drink giant Red Bull, demonstrates how far human athletic performance has evolved. His jump stands as a testament to what becomes possible when natural talent combines with unwavering determination and the refusal to accept existing limits. For ski jumping enthusiasts and sports fans worldwide, Kobayashi's Iceland jump represents a defining moment in the sport's ongoing evolution.

In April 2024, the limits of human flight were pushed to a place the sport had never even imagined. In Akureyri, Iceland, Japanese ski-jumping phenomenon Ryoyu Kobayashi stepped onto a specially built hill designed for one purpose only: to see how far a human could truly fly. Existing competition hills weren’t enough anymore, so his team created something entirely new, a launch pad for history. When Kobayashi took off, he was traveling at around 107 km/h, body perfectly balanced, skis steady, eyes fixed forward. Then came the silence. For nearly eight seconds, he floated through the Icelandic air, suspended between sky and earth, before finally landing at an unbelievable 291 meters—951 feet. It wasn’t just a jump, it was a statement. The distance shattered the previous mark by an astonishing 37.5 meters, leaving the ski world stunned. Although the International Ski and Snowboard Federation didn’t officially recognize it due to technical regulations, the moment still rewrote what people believed was possible. Records or not, that flight proved something deeper: when boundaries are rebuilt, greatness finds space to soar.

Red Bull set out to push ski jumping beyond the limits of regulated competition. Olympic medalist Ryōyū Kobayashi traveled to Akureyri, Iceland, where engineers carved a custom kicker into a steep mountainside. Unlike Olympic or World Cup hills, which are restricted by strict safety and size rules, this jump was built for one purpose only: maximum distance. There were no judges, no style points, and no competition format just terrain, physics, and precision engineering. The project wasn’t about winning an event; it was about redefining what’s possible when you remove constraints and design purely for performance. Media: Red Bull Follow @multiprenur for more
