CHDay 26 of painting in VR 🎨
Today was… a bit of a disaster 😂
First of all, I kept saying Tilt Brush, but I was actually using Open Brush the whole time. Oops.
Then I tried to get the mixed-reality camera set up and it just would not line up correctly, so you could sort of see what I was doing… but not really.
Epic fail? Maybe.
But honestly I still had a lot of fun experimenting. Open Brush has some really beautiful brushes that Gravity Sketch doesn’t have — which makes sense because Gravity Sketch is more about modeling and design rather than painterly brushes.
Trying a different VR painting platform also gave me a bunch of ideas for experimenting with mixed-reality videos in other apps.
So the question is…
Which VR art app should I try next?

CHDay 24 of painting in VR 🎨
Today I was thinking about how many AR platforms have disappeared in the last few years… Meta shutting down Spark AR, tools coming and going, everything constantly shifting.
As someone who loves making art for augmented reality, I really hope we start seeing more platforms and more ways for artists to experiment again. The possibilities are still so exciting.
Meanwhile… I was working on the dress of this character and somehow she ended up in a full Victorian situation 😂
Which might be because I just watched Wuthering Heights and apparently it made its way into my brain.
This is what the process looks like: a little tech talk, a little art history, and a lot of figuring it out as I go.

CHI still can’t believe this is real.
I’m literally painting in 3D space… moving around it, scaling it, stepping inside it like it’s nothing.
And somehow this is just… my normal now???
I’ve been playing with augmented reality for over a decade (like… 13 years???) and it has not been a straight line. So many moments where it felt like the tech just wasn’t there yet.
But now??
It finally feels like something is clicking.
Also — small PSA:
it’s not Tilt Brush… she’s gone 😭 (RIP, discontinued queen)
we’re in Open Brush era now
And honestly… I just love learning this stuff.
Like figuring out mixed reality??? I’ve been trying to do that for YEARS.
And now I’m here…
basically sculpting in space…
without making an absolute mess in my studio (which is honestly a miracle)
this is so fun it almost doesn’t feel real 💫
