I was the Director of Assisted Living for 20 years. I saw exactly why people moved in. It wasn’t because they “got old.” It was because they waited too long to add support. Staying independent isn’t about strength. It’s about strategy. Which one of the three do you need to think about right now? #OpenlyAging #StayIndependent #AgingWithStrategy #70Plus #AgingWell

When I’m with my mom, everything slows down. You can’t be in a hurry. You can’t rush the day. It’s not about your schedule anymore — it’s about theirs. She walks slower. She thinks more slowly. Simple decisions take more time. And with some early dementia, even everyday tasks can feel overwhelming for her. So we take it one step at a time. My sister and I share the responsibility. She lives closer and manages so much day-to-day — but she also works full-time and has her own family. Because I’m retired, I’m able to go stay with my mom regularly and help however I can. And when I’m not there, I’m still involved — multiple phone calls a day, helping her stay on track with medications, meals, and routines. This isn’t something I fully thought about when I pictured retirement. But the reality is… For many people, retirement years include caregiving. In fact, studies show that a large percentage of adults will either: • need care later in life • or become caregivers for someone they love And both come with emotional and financial challenges. Long-term care can be expensive — whether it’s in-home help, assisted living, or nursing care. But beyond the financial side… This experience has reminded me of something even more important: To have my own plans in place. • What kind of care would I want? • Where would I want to live? • Have I made that clear to my family? As difficult as caregiving can be at times… I’m also incredibly grateful. Grateful that I have the time. Grateful that I can be present. Grateful that I’m not trying to juggle this around a full-time job. Because at the end of the day, this is time that matters - for both of us. Are you in a caregiver role too? Some days, you question everything. You doubt yourself, your decisions, and the path you chose. But today reminded us exactly why we started. Seven years ago, we we’re blessed with the opportunity to acquire four assisted living homes and begin this journey in senior care. It hasn’t always been easy.. but it’s always been worth it. Today, we officially closed on our 5th location. I’m beyond grateful to be building this dream alongside my husband @cneil15 , guided by faith🙏🏻, and with a purpose bigger than us..to serve and care for the seniors of our community. Big shoutout to my good friend and realtor who has so much knowledge and experience in Assisted Living Facility @themandypoff Thank You 🙏🏻✨ ✨ #seniorcare #seniorcarehtx #nurseprenuer seniorcareindustry #homehealth #hospicecare

Watching moments like this is a powerful reminder of how dementia works in layers. Grandma may have felt disconnected at the table, unsure of the faces around her—but when her grandson walked in, something familiar reached her heart before her mind. 💛 Here are 3 things that often help someone with dementia recognize or remember a person: 1. Emotional connection – Strong emotional bonds are stored deeper in the brain. Even when names fade, love and familiarity often remain. 💞 2. Familiar voice or movement – The sound of a loved one’s voice, a laugh, or even the way they walk can trigger recognition. 👂✨ 3. Consistent presence – Seeing the same person regularly builds a sense of safety and recognition, even if the memory isn’t clear every time. 🧠🌿 These moments are gentle reminders of why compassionate, knowledgeable care matters so much in assisted living settings. ✨ If you’re thinking about getting into the assisted living industry, click the link in my bio and schedule your 30-minute phone consultation to learn how you can make a meaningful impact, one family at a time. 🤍 #TheAssistedLivingCoach #ResidentialAssistedLiving #SeniorCare #Dementia #Alzheimers
