I interviewed my friend Michael, who has “level 2 autism.” “Level 2” means someone needs a MODERATE level of support in daily life. That can look like needing help with back-and-forth conversation, having a harder time adjusting to changes in routine, relying on structure to get through the day, or needing support to communicate basic wants and needs. Michael and I have been friends for many years and I was so excited that he agreed to do this video for Autism Acceptance month! 🥰 #autistic #autism #autismacceptance #autismawareness #neurodivergent

“Clarity is kindness” means saying exactly what you mean. Not hinting. Not expecting someone to read between the lines. These shirts are printed by autistic adults, proceeds go to supporting their wages and the programs here at Project Hope! If autism acceptance is going to be more than a slogan, it has to show up in how we communicate. Click the link in our profile to grab your shirt and make this practice a part of how you engage every day! 🔗👕 #autismawareness #autism #autistic #neurodivergent #autismacceptance

Here’s why. 1. Our kiddos are autistic and struggle with lots of things typical kids may not. One being fine motor skills. They aren’t quite able to hold a cupcake, AND take the paper off, AND take bites, AND not drop it. It takes a lot for our brains to do those things. Especially in the car. 2. They have to be reminded to take bites, not to just eat the entirety in one bite. Choking hazard absolutely. We’ve seen our kids faces go blue. We’ve had to step in, multiple times. We don’t chance that, especially in the car. 3. They don’t know how not to make a mess. I know, our kids need a chance to be messy. Sure. But this is different. If we hand them a cupcake, there’s a giant chance they take one but and the entirety of the rest falls on the floor. Or they’ll be decorated like a Michelangelo painting. Tantrums. Meltdowns. Etc. surely you can imagine. And if we’re going somewhere, etc, having to change them again, etc it’s just not worth it. 4. We can’t just hand our kiddos food in the car. Yet. One day hopefully we can, but for now, it’s totally normal to get a treat, park and feed the kids. #autism #autismmom #autismdad #autismacceptance #autismawareness

This is what school refusal can actually look like. We are sitting outside… while the school police officer + social worker are inside my house talking with her. The principal has been here before too. She yelled that she’s the boss. And she won’t listen to anyone because she’s grown enough. Tantrum. Not meltdown. They followed behind us to get her in school. CPI team, who she adores, bringing her in. She walked with them. Holding their hands. School shades down for her privacy, as I sat in the car feeling like throwing up after this morning. Let that sink in. And they wonder why so many can’t have a full time job where you need to be there certain hours. She came home so happy. There’s a difference between meltdown and tantrum. When she needs days off and when she’s testing our boundaries. But this reminded me of all our mental health days we do take. And when it’s a true burnout or meltdown. And people will STILL say… “she’s high functioning, she knows better” “but she was fine yesterday” ✨ fine = masking ✨ fine = holding it together until she can’t ✨ fine = nervous system overload waiting to explode What you don’t see: The HOURS of buildup The anxiety The sensory overwhelm The complete shutdown when her body says “I’m done” And what you REALLY don’t see? ✨ the weight on the parents ✨ the pressure when multiple professionals are in your home ✨ the feeling like everyone is watching… but no one actually gets it This is the trauma that lives in our bodies. This isn’t behavior. This is a nervous system in survival mode. They are amazing at her school. And she loves it. But these days are so heavy. And YOU shouldn’t have to navigate this alone. Because this shit is heavy. Inside my community, I help you understand what’s actually happening and give you real strategies so mornings don’t feel like a crisis every damn day ✨ regulation first ✨ transition support that actually works ✨ a plan so you’re not guessing under pressure Real support. Real tools. Real relief. 💬 Comment RELIEF and I’ll get you inside #autismmama #autism #autismacceptance #neurodivergent #autismawareness

This morning we needed a little extra detangler help during our morning hair routine but Jaden took it like a champ and had a lot to say this morning!! I love watching his communication growth and seeing the progress in how the kids express themselves day by day. Tristan and Zuri brought their usual energy so it wasn’t exactly peaceful, but one calm kid out of three this morning is still a win! What’s a win you’re working toward with your kids right now? 💙 #morningroutine #autismawareness #schoollife #hairstyles #fragrance
