Most people think I’m just standing there. I’m not. I’m tracking everything— what he’s picking up and what’s being directed at him. Because he learns by watching. He mirrors what he sees. So I’m right there, gently guiding— “be kind” “use gentle hands” “that’s not how we talk” And at the same time… making sure he’s not being left out misunderstood or quietly picked on. I step in early— before it turns into something bigger. Not because I’ll always be there… but because one day, I won’t. And I need him to know what to do when I’m not standing next to him. I’m not antisocial. I’m preparing him. • • Autism inclusion, autism, raising a child with autism, autism diagnosis, autism mom, special needs family, social inclusion

I used to cry and cry and cry. Calling my mom, my grandma, and my friends. “What’s wrong with him?” “Why isn’t he talking?” “Why isn’t he doing what other kids are doing?” “Why is it so hard?” My support system was great however they didn’t understand my feelings. They had not gone through what I was going through. It took me a long time (because social media wasn’t big 10 years ago) but it wasn’t until I met other autism moms here on Instagram, that I felt heard. I felt understood. I felt a sense of belonging. We speak this universal language of just knowing. We get it. So if this is the beginning of your Autism journey, or maybe it’s not & you just haven’t found your tribe yet…this is for you! There is a huge community here that is waiting for you with open arms. A shoulder to cry on. Someone to vent too. Someone who will celebrate the wins with you big and small. And someone to just listen. We are here. You are doing amazing. It’s going to be okay! Autism Awareness, Autism Acceptance, Autism Inclusion, Autism Parents, Autism Family

Just as one doll can’t represent every person on the spectrum, one opinion can’t either. Everyone is entitled to their own. But Campbell brings up something important here about what it means to be autistic. To her, there is no high functioning or low—no better or worse. There’s just one wide, beautiful spectrum where people need different kinds of support. She has nonspeaking friends who can tolerate noise longer than she can. And she uses words—while running from a room to escape it. Every side of the spectrum is “special.” No toy could ever capture the nuance of it all. That’s why she doesn’t want labels. She wants support. And today, she found that in a doll that’s starting a long-overdue conversation. You can be anything. Even—especially—autistic. #autisminclusion #autismeducation #disabilitysupport #neurodiverse

People wonder why I label him as autistic. Because if I don’t tell you that he won’t get the understanding, patience, acceptance that he deserves. Just because he looks like a typical kid doesn’t mean his brain works that way. Because he wasn’t diagnosed until almost 9. He had 3 1/2 years at that school being constantly misunderstood and mistreated. That’s why the label is important, that’s what the school learning how to treat autistic children is important, so there can be inclusion. #ASD #Autism #AutismUnderstanding #AutismInclusion #autismacceptance #AutisticMom #MomLife #ParentingJourney #Neurodivergent #TwiceGifted #boymom #ILoveMyAutisticSon

The perfect intersection for me has been This Could Be Us finding its way to so many readers during Autism Inclusion/Appreciation/Awareness/ “Adoration” Month. Reviews like this make the care and thought and intention I tried to inject into the autism rep of the story feel worth it! Don’t forget my @lift4autism auction is underway. We are still accepting bookish donations from authors, publishers, editors, agents, narrators, readers. Bidding begins April 22! https://lift4autism.com/ (🔗 in bye oh) #Repost thank you @whenbookdandbusy with @use.repost ・・・ Hey y’all! As we wrap up week one of Autism Inclusion Month, we’re dedicating today’s intermission to my fave, Kennedy Ryan (@kennedyryan1), and her masterpiece that came out this year — This Could Be Us. I’ve never encountered a writer who can encapsulate so much into perfect paragraphs, personas and experiences. This book is so much more than a family’s journey through autism (hence my video), BUT she does the community justice in a world where you cannot always get it right — from my professional DEI experience. Part I ✅ Part II - ⏳ & yes, my reading attire is top tier. 👕 #DiverseReads #bookd #bookdnbusy #booklover #narritives #bookrecommendations #bookrec#literaturelover #twins #realisticfiction #womensfiction #autism #autismawareness #autismacceptance #love

What kind of mother can’t get her kid to eat? It’s a basic necessity: sleep, shelter, food. And despite feeding therapy—and a lot of faith—we were failing even at that. But this moment, five years later, shows what we needed most. The magic ingredient required for any kind of progress: Time. Autism changes the trajectory. Milestones might be delayed, or missed entirely. You might be the mother who orders every single item from a kid’s menu—and still goes home with a hungry child. You might feel incredible envy. What other families do with ease is impossible for yours. And then, one day, you might look up and see your son eating a taco. What we do with our time, it matters. Keep offering. Keep exposing. Keep your therapies and faith. Autism might slow you down, but it doesn’t have to stop you. One step, one bite, at a time. #feedingtherapy #autisminclusion #disabilitysupport #actuallyautistic #arfid

They’re calling it an “autism epidemic” but it’s really… Inclusion. Autism used to be only for white boys with medium and high support needs, limited ability to mask, and typical presentation. Now we’re starting to include: ~ Autistic women ~ Gender non-conforming autistic people ~ High-masking autistic people ~ Autistic people of color ~ Autistic people with low support needs ~ And other autistic people who were previously excluded That’s disability justice, not an epidemic, and we still have a long way to go to fair and accessible diagnosis for all. #autismawareness #actuallyautistic #autisticwomen #autisticadults #autism
