day 4 of #memademay. today i’ve got on a fresh pair of #bfparker pants in 9.5oz brushed cotton canvas by @blackbirdfabrics. i’m really loving this pattern. i made a size E (my measurements put me between D and E) and the only change i made was to remove about an inch from the rise, which i may come to regret. when i first attached the waistband, it felt pretty chunky in this heavy canvas, even with the serged seam allowance stitched down. i also didn’t love how the serged seam allowance felt against my skin since it was quite thick, and since the pants were sitting a bit high on my waist, i impulsively ripped off the waistband, sliced an inch off the top of the legs, and reattached it with the seam allowance fully encased in the band. in retrospect, i prob should’ve washed and worn them before adjusting, because now i don’t think i would’ve minded the extra inch in the rise and i think washing would’ve relaxed the fabric nicely. alas! #memademay2026

If you want to start sewing, this is for you 🫶🏼 I totally understand why sewing feels intimidating to start, buy my number one piece of advice is: you just gotta start!! I also get that figuring out where to start is no easy task either. So lemme make a case for elastic waistband pants 🫡 They might seem intimidating, but they’ll teach you SO many useful skills. Also there are so many thoughtful patterns with amazing instructions out there these days. And you don’t need to know everything before you start!! Learn the basics, look things up as you go, learn how to fix your mistakes, and enjoy the process 💫 2 great patterns you should check out are the #lanepants by @hisydgraham and the #bfparker pants by @bfpatterns ☺️ Both have excellent instructions and are wardrobe staples that you’ll wear a ton!! Or the green pants in this video are the #bisquetrousers by @vivianshaochen and I made them super early on in my sewing journey if you’re interested in pleats 💅 Anyways there’s something deeply magical about wearing clothes that you made yourself so.. i really think you should try it!! 🫶🏼

There is nothing like making a brand new pattern release to make you feel on top of your sewing game! 💪 I knew the BF Patterns Parker Pants were right up my alley and they did not disappoint! I love the fit on these and the striped fabric is sooo dreamy. 🤩 I was drawn to this pattern because I have been enjoying barrel leg pants (hello, Falconer! 👀) and I have also been enjoying voluminous pants. Parker feels like a great casual pant that checks both of those boxes and is ideal for everyday wear. 💁‍♀️ It is very comfortable with a loose fit and a great shape through the legs. The pockets are also very roomy and comfy! The Parker Pants have a barrel shape and a cool twisted side seam. I thought the stripe would be neat in this fabric and I was right! The side seam meets at an angle and makes for some great visual interest. I cut my pocket and drawstring fabric on the cross grain for a little contrast but I left the back pockets vertical. 😉 I love the thickness of this stripe and I really enjoyed working with this fabric. It is a new @blackbirdfabrics custom fabric; a cotton twill that they developed with the manufacturer and it is so dreamy! 🙌 It is yarn dyed so the back is also striped and beautiful. The fabric has great structure to it and it also has a warm hand and a soft face. 10/10 from me! ⭐ I know they are going to make more and I would love to sew with this again. I love how these turned out! I’m wearing them with my new frog shirt that I got for my birthday. 🐸 I feel like this outfit is giving Frog and Toad and I am here for it.
