Pregnancy process: first 7 days 🤍👩‍⚕️✨ Day 0 – Ovulation An ovary releases a mature egg. This is the only time fertilization is possible. The egg lives ~24 hours. Day 1 – Fertilization If sperm meets the egg in the fallopian tube, fertilization occurs → a zygote is formed. Day 2–3 – Cell division The zygote rapidly divides (2, 4, 8 cells) while moving toward the uterus. This stage is called cleavage. Day 4 – Morula The embryo becomes a compact ball of cells (morula). Still no connection with the uterus yet. Day 5 – Blastocyst A hollow structure forms: • inner cell mass → future baby • outer layer → future placenta Day 6 – Implantation begins The blastocyst reaches the uterus and starts attaching to the endometrium. Some women may feel mild cramping. Day 7 – Deeper implantation The embryo burrows deeper into the uterine lining. hCG production begins soon, but pregnancy tests are usually still negative. 🧠 Important to know: • No symptoms ≠ no pregnancy • Everything happens on a microscopic level • Hormones are just starting to change ⸻ #pregnancyjourney #earlypregnancy #firstweekpregnancy #implantation #ovulation #fertilization #blastocyst #embryology #obgynlife #doctorexplains #womenshealth #reproductivehealth #ttccommunity #pregnancytips #medicaleducation #futuremom #tryingforababy #fertilityawareness #hormones #uterus #placenta #scienceofpregnancy #pregnancyfacts #healtheducation #medinstagram #instadoctor #pregnancyeducation #week1pregnancy

Watching a blastocyst hatch never gets old. ✨ This tiny structure is a blastocyst — an embryo about 5–6 days after fertilization. It’s only about 0.1–0.2 millimeters wide, smaller than the period at the end of this sentence, yet incredibly complex. At this stage, the embryo is made up of: • An inner cell mass, which becomes the baby • An outer layer (trophectoderm), which helps form the placenta Before implantation can happen, the blastocyst must hatch out of its shell (called the zona pellucida). Hatching allows the embryo to interact directly with the uterine lining so it can attach and begin implantation. A few important reassurances: • Blastocysts do not all look the same • They can be at different stages of expansion or hatching • An embryo does NOT need to be fully hatched before transfer to implant successfully Some hatch before transfer, some start hatching after transfer, and some complete hatching once inside the uterus — all can lead to healthy pregnancies. Embryo development is dynamic, not one-size-fits-all. And every time I watch this process unfold, I’m reminded just how remarkable reproduction is! #blastocyst #embryotransfer Video @twolinesfertility

So many patients ask about C grade embryos and their chances of success. It’s true that statistically, higher grade embryos like A or B grades have a higher chance of implantation, and C grade embryos have a lower chance of success. But it is important to remember there are many healthy, beautiful babies born from C grade embryos. Grading of an embryo is simply a visual assessment by an embryologist, it is a tool we use to help decide which embryo to transfer, and which ones to vitrify (freeze). Equally important to understand is that embryo grades can change within hours, grading systems can differ between lab, day of freezing matters, embryo genetics matters, and that grading is a highly subjective and variable assessment between embryologists. There is *a lot* to an embryo’s grade. Understanding the grade of your embryos, especially frozen ones, is useful to understand your chances of success, help manage expectations and family planning. If you transferred a C grade embryo and got pregnant, please share your story below to give hope to others! 💗 #ivf #blastocyst #embryograding #embryology #embryogradingandsuccessrates #explainingivf #science #ivfcommunity #ivfjourney #4CC #ivfsupport

Have you ever wondered what an embryo looks like just 5 days after fertilization? Meet the blastocyst! At this stage, it’s only about 0.1–0.2 mm wide—smaller than the period at the end of this sentence—but it’s already highly specialized. 🧬 Here’s the breakdown of its four key parts: Inner Cell Mass (ICM): This tiny cluster of cells on the inside is destined to become the fetus. These are pluripotent stem cells that can develop into every tissue in the body. Trophectoderm (TE): The outer shell of cells. Its job is to form the placenta and other support membranes. These cells are also the ones that first interact with the uterine lining to begin implantation. Blastocoel: The fluid-filled cavity in the center. It’s more than just space—the fluid provides essential nutrients and growth factors to help the cells differentiate and move into their proper positions. Zona Pellucida: The protective “shell” surrounding the entire structure. Before implantation can happen, the blastocyst must hatch out of this shell so it can attach to the uterus. Development depends on these four parts working in perfect harmony. Science is truly incredible! 🔬🤍 #Embryology #Blastocyst #IVFJourney #ScienceFacts #FertilityEducation

Embryos hatch out if ‘shells’ 🐣 Did you know this? A blastocyst is a mature embryo ready to implant into the uterine lining but there is one essential step required: hatching. The blastocyst must break out of the ‘shell’ called the zona pellucida in order to implant (attach to) the lining of the uterus for pregnancy. This video showing the hatching process is truly stunning - thanks for sharing it @embryologists_diary and @twolinesfertility #ivf #blastocyst #pregnancy #ttc
