Say hi if that’s you! Hi! My name’s Katie. I’m a 32 year old mom of two who loves growing my family’s food, sourcing what we can’t grow locally, and living the country life in our suburban homestead. I’ll admit, we’re a bit crunchy too 🙂 When we started our backyard homestead, we got our first hive of bees. They gifted us with five gallons of delicious, nutritious, raw honey. And I found myself wondering what to do with it all! I realized that all this honey was the solution to the last hurdle in my from scratch kitchen. I threw out our white sugar, and started cooking with honey. And our lives were turned upside down in the best way possible. We went from being bloated and tired to energized and nourished. We could enjoy dessert but feel satiated and not crave more and more. I was so amazed at this switch that I started writing down my recipes, and over the last year have compiled a cookbook with over 50 recipes all using raw honey. It can help you make the switch from refined sugar to raw honey, and feed your family delicious meals they will ask for again and again. The cookbook comes out on July 7th, and waitlist members will get exclusive early bird pricing for the first 48 hours. Comment SWEET to get on the waitlist! #rawhoney #fromscratchcooking #healthymealideas #realfood #naturalsweetener #homegrownhoney #suburbanhomestead

Feed costs add up FAST—especially when you’re trying to raise healthy, productive Coturnix quail on your backyard homestead. One of the best decisions we made was switching to no-waste feeders, and let me tell you… total game changer. These feeders are designed to minimize spillage and stop your birds from scratching or flinging feed everywhere—because let’s be honest, we’re not trying to feed the ground, wild birds, or local mice 🐭. What you’re seeing in this reel is two of our quail happily eating without wasting a single crumble. 👌 Whether you’re feeding 10 quail or 100, waste adds up. Every scoop you lose to the floor is money out of your pocket—and nutrients your flock won’t benefit from. With no-waste feeders, you’re giving your birds what they need without overbuying or over-cleaning. Urban homesteading is all about working smarter in small spaces, and this is one of those easy upgrades that keeps things tidy, efficient, and budget-friendly. 🙌 📌 Pro tip: You can DIY these feeders with basic materials. Your feed bill (and your clean-up routine) will thank you. If you’re serious about raising Coturnix quail for eggs, meat, or self-sufficiency—don’t overlook the little things that make a BIG difference. Your birds stay full. Your feed lasts longer. Your system runs smoother. ➡️ Drop a 🐥 in the comments if you want a supply list for these feeders! #UrbanHomestead #MadeNewFarmstead #CoturnixQuail #BackyardQuail #QuailLife #HomesteadingHacks #NoWasteFeeder #QuailKeeping #SelfSufficientLiving #BackyardFlock #FeedSmartSaveMore

Did you set some important goals for March? Every month I like to set three goals I want to tackle throughout the month. The unique thing about each of my goals is that they are smaller stepping-stones to much larger goals. Goal One: Workout 5X week. The larger goal is completing a 12-week BodyBoss program. If I can stay dedicated for one day, for one month, I will complete the entire program, which was very intimidating for me. Goal Two: No Eating out 6X week. I am giving myself one day out of the week to grab takeout. Life happens, and I still have a lot of tweaking to do in my meal planning process. The larger goal is to stop eating out altogether, except for special events eventually. Some may think this is unattainable, but I have a friend who has made this a reality. I would also like to work towards it! Goal Three: Read 30 minutes/day. I will struggle with this. I am not a reader. I have never been, but I would like to be. It’s not because I don’t enjoy it. It’s because I always find an excuse not to make it a priority in my life. The larger goal is to read 12 books in 2021. I am starting with “The Backyard Homestead – Kitchen Know-How.” Goal setting is all about small actions that I can take to reach a much larger future goal successfully. I stay motivated by tracking my progress throughout the month. If you would like to join me, you can get this free Goal Worksheet in my Free Resource Library. Just click on the link in my bio. What are your goals for March?

You don’t need land to homestead. You can homestead from anywhere. A misconception people have about a homestead way of life is that you need land to do it - you don’t. You can learn to source food locally, even if you live in a subdivision. Find food co-ops, other like-minded people, community gardens, local farms, and farmer’s markets. Get to know your community. You don’t need land for sourcing quality food. You don’t need land to learn how to preserve food like our great-grandparents did. Get a canner. Do some practice runs with water in jars and then start preserving fruits and vegetables! You don’t need land to bake from scratch. Baking from scratch is one of the most fulfilling homestead skills o have learned. Animals will require some land but people can be successful with backyard homestead. Having a chicken or two running in a city backyard will make you more self-sufficient than the majority. I would encourage it! You can do it. What do you want to learn? #homestead #homesteadlife

Take a moment to appreciate the freshness of the turning season and get inspired to take on all the new opportunities that arise with the change. Now is the time to take a deep breath, embrace the changes and embrace a new outlook. As the weather warms and days become more energizing, this is the perfect time to indulge in building up your backyard homestead. Finish up those planter beds you’ve been meaning to build up, start some seeds indoors, hatch out some eggs or grab chicks from the store. Was winter holding you back? Us too. Let’s welcome the spring season, shake off the snow, and get to that homestead dream! -M&M #backyardhomestead #homesteadanywhere #urbanfarn

Got chickens? That’s like holding GOLD with these egg prices! 🐔💰 And now, I’ve got my homesteading mama friends convincing me to add chickens and ducks to the mix—because why not, right? 🦆😂 Plus, my husband’s out here like, ‘We can turn the kids’ fenced-in play area into the chicken run!’ So, if you see me surrounded by chicks, send help (and maybe some chicken wire)! To top it off, we saved an injured bird yesterday, and both kids immediately declared, ‘We have a pet bird! I’m so excited!’ 🐦 Meanwhile, my son has also been asking for a snake AND an alligator… so, wish me luck with that. 😅 But here’s the thing—you don’t need a backyard farm (or a mini zoo) to save big on your budget. Sure, fresh eggs help, but I’ve also gotten hundreds of free products that make a HUGE difference—saving us money, helping us try new gadgets, and even letting us share goodies with friends and family! From snacks, toys, and home essentials to tools for sourdough baking, gardening, or caring for your flock—companies want YOUR voice. No huge following? No problem. With just your phone, your personality, and your everyday mom life, you can share what you love and earn while doing it. 🛍️✨ Ready to turn your daily routine into budget-friendly, stress-free income opportunities? Drop a comment for a freebie to get started! P.S. Let me know—should we get chickens (or maybe even that alligator)? 👇🐓🐊 Follow me @inkedwellnessmombie for all the insider tips and updates on our potentially expanding family! 👀🤣 #GotChickens #HomesteadingLife #MomLife #BudgetFriendlyLiving #FreeProducts #EarnFromHome #SideHustleMom #WorkFromHomeMom #ChickensAndDucks #FrugalLiving #SavingMoney #ReviewMom #MomHacks #BusyMomLife #PassiveIncome #SahmLifestyle #Mompreneur #FarmhouseVibes #MamaOnAMission #StayAtHomeMomLife #MomOfTwo #KidsAndAnimals #FamilyAdventures Earn Money from Home, Side Hustle for Moms, Budget-Friendly Living, Free Products for Reviews, Work from Home Opportunities, Homesteading Tips for Moms, How to Save Money on Groceries, Turn Everyday Life into Income, Stay-at-Home Mom Side Hustle, Free Gadgets,How to Start Homesteading, Chicken Raising for Beginners, Backyard Homestead.

#backtoprairieliving Chickens (and eggs) are the whole reason we have our backyard homestead. I convinced my husband to let us raise a few chicks when we moved into our first house here, and the rest is history. We love our eggs so much that we had a hard time buying them from the store when the girls took a break this year…which made me realize that I need to up my egg preservation game. As soon as laying is in full swing, I’ll be scrambling and freezing eggs for baking. I’m also planning to try out water glassing for the first time, too! The ultimate goal is to have enough eggs preserved to get us through winter without having to buy any from the store. #backtoprairieliving #thehalftimehomestead #fresheggsdaily #fromcooptocarton #backyardchickens
