Rising to prominence as a member of Saturday Night Live’s house band in the late 1970s, he became a first-call session player across rock, blues, soul, and pop. Jordan’s credits include work with Keith Richards, John Mayer, Eric Clapton, and Bob Dylan. Scene from the documentary film "Jackie McLean On Mars", directed by Kenneth Levis, 1980. 🎞 Watch the complete documentary in our Youtube Channel, link in stories. (Subscribe for more!) A beautiful portrait of the magnetic artist and educator who played with Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, Art Blakey, and many others. Alto saxophonist Jackie McLean is a true jazz legend, but during the filming of Ken Levis’ Jackie McLean On Mars, he was more of an educator than a working musician. In the early scenes of the film, McLean is asked how he felt about being a legend, and replies, “I feel like an exploited, poor musician in 1976, if you want to know how I feel, and I also feel like a professor of history at the University of Hartford. If I feel good about anything, it’s about being able to turn down jobs that are offered to me for scale and below… that’s what I feel good about.” The doc features some incredible, candid footage of McLean in his element as an educator. In one scene, he’s seen joyfully conducting a group of children as they count, directing each number as if it were a note in a composition. Miles Davis (1926–1991) was an American trumpeter, composer, and bandleader whose work repeatedly redefined modern jazz. He helped shape bebop with Charlie Parker, introduced cool jazz with Birth of the Cool, advanced modal jazz on Kind of Blue, and later pushed into jazz fusion with Bitches Brew. In the early 1950s, Davis developed a severe heroin addiction. In 1954, he isolated himself at his father’s farm and quit cold turkey. Although he stayed off heroin, he later fell into cocaine and alcohol abuse during the 1970s before stabilizing again. He died on September 28, 1991, in Santa Monica, California, from complications related to a stroke, pneumonia, and respiratory failure. 📸 @milesdavis . #milesdavid #jazz #blues
