ENIt’s almost bee season! Consider making a solitary bee house for the bees in your area :-) though the bee houses offered at big box stores can look convenient, there are often many problems with their construction:
1) the straws are typically glued to the back of the house and are not lined with anything, making them impossible to clean between years. Without proper cleaning, this can turn your bee house into a “haunted house” that is filled with parasites, pests, and pathogens of the bees. Yikes!!
2) the straws used in these houses are often the wrong diameter. Many bees are picky about the size of the hole they use and these houses will not support nesting — basically you are wasting your money since bees will not come to them!
If you do decide to purchase a bee house, make sure to look for a retailer with experience in bee rearing! And remember that you still need to clean them out between years!!!

FEI was worried that my garden bees were gonna hatch inside of this container, which they probably won’t cause it’s dark when you get a B house for the garden bees who don’t make, honey in the spring you take it out with babies in it cause the previous year, they lay eggs in it and pack and clay, and they sit until the following spring And then you put it in a place that has a little bit of shelter facing the sun rise and they hatch and they continue to lay eggs in this thing and sleep in it at night and everything all season it’s adorable .. I also have the cocoon somewhere. I didn’t see the cocoon, but I know there is one because it kept that bright yellow poisonous looking caterpillar thingy that I found at one point in time and it probably made a cocoon in the pile of leaves that I made it in an enclosure and I wanna see what it looks like when it turns into some type of crazy moth and I am gonna hatch a butterfly this year maybe more.. there was lots of things I want to do this year .. there is several be that I’ve been growing in there throughout the winter.. #gardenbees #beehouse #beehabitat #bees #pollinators
