LI8 things I wish someone told me when I first started sewing 4 years ago 🪡🧵
1. It’s normal if it takes you a few days to finish a project!! Take an evening to cut and prep the fabric and pieces. Then another evening to sew everything together - slowing yourself down and not doing it all in one go is key!
2. Wash your fabric first!!!
3. Don’t tuck your sewing machine away - being able to see it will remind and encourage you to keep trying and making
4. Learn new techniques without the goal of making a garment! There’s so much you can create if you practice and perfect techniques.
5. Pick your pattern or make your plan FIRST before investing in fabric - you’ll spend too much money and be too afraid to play with your fabric if you buy nice fabric without a vision!
6. Not every project will go as planned and that’s ok!! Just make sure to always check your measurements
7. You won’t master sewing overnight, it takes a lot of time and patience - dedicate days and hours of the week to sewing, practice practice practice!
8. The urge to make a new garment the night before a trip or day of an event will not go away !!
