সেযুগে একটা প্রশ্ন খুব উঠত যে, ঈশ্বর সাকার না নিরাকার ? ঈশ্বর সর্বব্যাপী, তিনি কি করে একটা মূর্তিতে আবদ্ধ হবেন ?—এই প্রশ্ন করতেন অনেকে । স্বামী দয়ানন্দ, যিনি আর্যসমাজ প্রতিষ্ঠা করলেন, তাঁর সম্বন্ধে একটা গল্প শোনা যায় । তিনি তো নিরাকারবাদী ছিলেন—কিন্তু প্রথমে তিনি সাকার মানতেন । তাঁর যখন অল্প বয়স, তখন তিনি একবার শিবরাত্রির উপোস করেছেন । মন্দিরে তিনি একা আছেন । মাঝ রাত্রি । হঠাৎ দেখেন কি যে, সেই শিবলিঙ্গের গায়ে ইঁদুর উঠেছে আর শিবের জন্য যে ভোগ নিবেদন করা হয়েছে, ইঁদুরে সেটা খাচ্ছে । এই দেখে তাঁর মূর্তিপুজোর প্রতি অশ্রদ্ধা এসে গেল : শিব নিশ্চয়ই ঐ শিলার মধ্যে নেই । থাকলে ইঁদুর এসে এইভাবে তাঁর ভোগ খেয়ে যেতে পারত না । সেই থেকে তিনি নিরাকারবাদী হয়ে গেলেন। কিন্তু ঠাকুর বলছেন যে, সাকার নিরাকার দুই-ই সত্য । কারণ নিরাকারই সাকার হন । ব্রহ্ম নিরাকার, কিন্তু ভক্তের জন্য তিনি সাকার হন । বলছেন : তিনি নিরাকার আবার সাকার । ভক্তের জন্য তিনি সাকার । যারা জ্ঞানী অর্থাৎ জগৎকে যাদের স্বপ্নবৎ মনে হয়েছে, তাদের পক্ষে তিনি নিরাকার । #belurmath

On 12 January 1863, in this very house, the valiant monk of Bengal, Swami Vivekananda, was born. This house witnessed his journey from Narendranath Datta of that day to Swami Vivekananda of today. Today marks his 163rd birth anniversary. In the eighteenth century, Swamiji’s great-grandfather Ram Mohan Datta built this house. . After the untimely death of his father, Vishwanath Datta, a deep shadow of crisis fell upon the family. A long-drawn family legal dispute over this house followed, the final verdict of which came even before Swamiji’s physical body passed away. Legally, ownership of the house went to his mother, Bhuvaneshwari Devi, and her brothers. . One of Swamiji’s closest monastic brothers, Swami Premananda, had a far-reaching vision centered around this house. He wished that— there would be scriptural discussions here, along with a library and a gymnasium, so that the city’s students could easily come into contact with Swamiji’s ideals. . In 1963, to realize this dream, Belur Math acquired the house. Thereafter, following a long legal and technical process, and with the assistance of the Archaeological Survey, the house was restored while preserving its original architectural character. . Today, this restored heritage building houses Swamiji’s birth room, meditation room, the Thakur Dalan, and various memorabilia. In 2004, the doors of this house were opened to the public so that we all may move forward toward building a new society inspired by the ideals of that great soul. . This house silently carries the history of the life of a revolutionary thinker. . This, then, is a part of Bengal’s history—the history of Swamiji’s house at Shimla Pally. . . . From the outside, it appears to be just an old, ordinary house… yet within it beats the pulse of history. In this small room, Mahendranath Gupta — lovingly known as “M” — penned the immortal classic Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita. Those nectar-like words later became known to the world as The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna. Sarada Devi stayed here. The sacred vessel of Chandi was installed here. Preserved here are the holy sandals of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, strands of hair from Thakur and the Holy Mother, and the Rudraksha rosary from the Shodashi Puja — all of which are worshipped daily. Swami Vivekananda and many other eminent personalities visited this house.
