We rarely think about the space between the version of us today and the variant that has to deal with the consequences of our actions tomorrow. But the person suffering those consequences is still you just displaced in time. Most of the problems of your future self are being caused by you right now 😅 The weirdest part is that this dissociation appears structural. If all moments exist simultaneously (block universe), then “you” is actually a collection of temporal nodes that only feel continuous because of memory (shaky one at that cause not all variants of you even hold the same memory) and narrative (the stories we tell ourselves with said memories. Which means self-sabotage is one part of the system not recognizing the other parts as itself.
