SEHiking to Dominica’s legendary Boiling Lake—the largest in the Western hemisphere—was a true bucket list experience! After living here for nearly 3 years it felt even more exciting because of the build up! I’ve wanted to do it right from when we arrived, but an injured knee prevented me until now. The 6 hour round trip is an epic adventure, ascending up to cloud forest peaks & traversing the infamous ‘Valley of Desolation’ where hissing fumaroles and bubbling sulphur pools surround you, with jagged peaks behind. When you arrive at the bubbling, cauldron-like boiling lake itself, it’s like something out of a fairytale! I was grateful to have my friend Naithan @floor_board_6 as a guide, as a local to the area he first did the hike aged 6 and he knows the ins & outs of the rugged trail & has great knowledge of all the incredible rainforest flora & fauna. On the hike we also saw the groundbreaking cable car being constructed, which will be the longest one in the world when it opens, as it soars over waterfalls & jungle-clad mountains & the boiling lake itself.
