And this all started when the librarian ordered in a copy of 'Men who hate women' by Laura Bates for the older yr11 ( ages 15-16) school kids who were learning about the dangers of incel culture and the manosphere.... And then she was told to remove the book, along with instructions to remove other books deemed 'inappropriate' the librarian was also reported to the local authority as a safe guarding risk... Over 200 books were removed here just some of that list: - 1984 by George Orwell - Michelle Obama's Biography Becoming - Heart stopper by Alice Osman - Twilight by Stephanie Myers - why I'm not talking to white people about race by Reni Edo-Lodge - Queerly Autistic: The ultimate guide for LGBTQAI+ for teens on the spectrum by Erin Ekins - Men who hate women by Laura Bates The censoring of these books is alarming and particularly when looking at the books that address racism, discrimination and LGBTQ+ issues. If we stop children learning about real world issues we are not protecting them, but limiting their skills of empathy and critical thinking.
