The Boss Becomes A Media Sensation: On this date (Oct. 27) 50 years ago New Jersey-bred rocker Bruce Springsteen was bestowed the rare honor of appearing simultaneously on the front covers of Time and Newsweek magazines after releasing the single and his third studio album ā€œBorn to Runā€. When released, the massive attention lavished upon the album led to backlash from some critics who expressed skepticism over whether Springsteenā€™s newfound fame was warranted. Well, history showed that the Boss and his E Street Band put those critics in their place. The album, released a few months earlier, is regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. In 1987, Rolling Stone magazine ranked it number 8 in a list of the 100 best albums of all time. It was also added to the Library of Congress for its historical, cultural and artistic relevance. In this video. Springsteen and the E Street Band performs ā€œ10th Avenue Freeze-outā€ at a University of Arizona concert in 1980, considered by some as one of the bandā€™s finest performances. It was a collection of 18 music videos made on his behalf, released in VHS format on January 31, 1989. In March 1989, it was certified 3x Platinum for over 300,000 copies sold. It was reissued as The Complete Video Anthology / 1978-2000 by Sony on DVD on January 16, 2001, adding a second disc with 15 additional music videos or other clips, making it a collection of over 33 music videos. It is therefore a taped retrospective of one of rockā€™s most illustrious and successful singer/songwriters. This two-disc DVD compilation spans Bruce Springsteenā€™s music video career, featuring such songs as ā€œBorn to Run,ā€ ā€œThe River,ā€ ā€œBorn in the U.S.A.,ā€ ā€œDancing in the Dark,ā€ ā€œBrilliant Disguise,ā€ ā€œHuman Touch,ā€ ā€œMurder Incorporated,ā€ ā€œSecret Garden,ā€ ā€œDead Man Walkinā€™,ā€ and ā€œThe Ghost of Tom Joad,ā€ just to name a few.
