Keep reading to learn a nervous system hack for next time you’re stressed or anxious 👇🏻 When you’re overwhelmed, most advice tells you to “breathe” or “calm down”… But your nervous system needs more than instructions, it needs regulation. One of the simplest ways to do that? Gentle side-to-side rocking. Here’s why it works: → This movement mimics the motion babies experience when being soothed → It activates the vestibular system, which is deeply connected to your sense of safety → The rhythm cues your brain to down-regulate the amygdala (your fear center), helping you come out of fight-or-flight When paired with slow breathing, it becomes a powerful reset, especially during emotional spirals or sensory overload. It might seem too simple to be effective, but the body responds best to what it recognises as safe, familiar, and soothing. Physio-favorite BREATHWORK tips😮‍💨 Are you feeling more stress and pain lately?? ⁣ ✅ Save this and do it ASAP.⁣ Are you:⁣ 🔹Breathing with your chest?⁣ 🔹Breathing with your belly?⁣ 🔹Breathing with your ribs?⁣ ⁣ Does your breath feel:⁣ 🔸Shallow or deep?⁣ 🔸Calm or fast?⁣ 🔸Relaxed or strained?⁣ ⁣ ✨The nervous system rules all. From the level of pain you feel, the intensity and frequency at which you feel it… to hiding it’s override levels in “tight muscles” like your upper traps…. When this system is on overdrive, it’s important to down regulate. Or it can stay there longer than ideal with negative effects. 🚩Pain levels go up, fatigue rises, immunity decreases, EVERYTHING can be affected.⁣ ⁣ ✨There are a few ways to break into this system to bring it down to baseline or calmer levels. Breathing techniques are one of them. Positioning hack to improve how much air you get in and how the ribs expand: cue the soda can analogy. Stack your ribs over the pelvis and reduce spinal extension and rib rise for better 360° expansion. Side note: Exhaling/maintaining pressure with the right breathing cues can also improve intra-abdominal pressure and set you up for mostttly more effective everything for sport/lifting, so get used to “stacking” 🤩 But aside from the back and ribs, positions to help relax the system include more! Hips 🤝 pelvic floor 🤝 diaphragm 🤝 lungs 🤝 nervous system & brain🧠 ⁣ Use these tips to help reduce your heart rate, stress, positively impact your pain & energy levels. ⁣ ⁣ ♾In through the nose, exhale through the mouth. When our survival responses get interrupted due to stressful or traumatic experiences, Our body holds that memory within, and can re-experience the past as if it is present moment. This can show up in a host of different ways from nervous system dysfunction, physiological dysfunction, feeling numb and disconnected, easily triggered, poor sleep. When we combine our breath and allow our bodies to move, we can assist ourself to complete those interrupted patterns and come back into homeostasis, safety and connection. This also helps to move the emotion, the stuck energy that was frozen in time due to experience to move through and release from the body. We go deep into this inside my breathwork training.
