PIBaba Bulleh Shah embodies the very essence of India. After the Nasadiya Sukta of the Rigveda, which dares to ask “who truly knows?”, it was Baba Bulleh Shah in the 18th century who echoed the same profound uncertainty.
To vandalize his mazaar is to vandalize India itself.
One can only hope that wisdom and good sense will prevail someday.

DE"Bulla ki Jaana Main Kaun” is not a song—it is a refusal.
A refusal to accept borrowed identities.
In these verses, Bulleh Shah dismantles every label society offers—
religion, caste, knowledge, profession, even virtue.
Not to replace them with a new answer,
but to expose the illusion of the question itself.
When Bulla says “Na main momin vich maseetan”,
he is not denying faith—
he is denying containment.
Truth, for him, cannot be housed in institutions, ideologies, or definitions.
The repeated line “Main kaun hoon?” is not confusion.
It is clarity at its sharpest edge.
Because the moment you truly look inward,
every identity begins to feel insufficient:
Am I my work?
Am I my beliefs?
Am I my success, my failure, my body, my thoughts?
Bulla’s answer is radical silence.
He arrives at unknowing as wisdom.
In Sufi philosophy, the self you can describe
is not the self you truly are.
What remains—after all names fall away—
is existence itself: aware, present, unowned.
That is why this song feels timeless.
Why it fits a laboratory, a monastery, a battlefield, or a bedroom at night.
Because whether you are curing composites, curing doubts,
or curing the ego—
the deepest research leads to the same place:
👉 You are not the label.
👉 You are the witness behind it.
And that is why “Bulla ki Jaana Main Kaun” does not give comfort.
It gives freedom.

1. Intellectualism vs. Wisdom - You’ve read thousands of books to become a scholar, but you haven’t read the “book” of your own soul. All that information is useless if you don’t know who you are.
2. Outward vs. Inward Worship - You run to temples and mosques seeking God, yet you never bother to look inside yourself—the place where the Divine actually resides.
3. The Real Enemy - You fight the “Satan” (external evil) every day, but you never fight your own ego or base desires (Nafas), which are the true roots of conflict.
4. The Illusion of Grandeur - You try to “catch birds in the sky” (aiming for high spiritual status or miracles), yet you ignore the “One” (the Divine) who is sitting right there in your own home (your heart).

ISBulleh Shah’s kalaams are more than poetry, they are mirrors for the heart. He speaks of a world where people measure worth by family, caste or status yet he shows us that God’s love does not live inside these walls. Using the metaphor of the Arain( his guide, his teacher) he explains that guidance can come from anywhere but the divine sees beyond labels. The seeker matters more than the lineage. The one who truly searches, questions and humbles themselves is embraced while superficial beauty and inherited prestige fade into nothingness.
He contrasts outward appearances with inner truth. the beautiful, the admired, the socially favored, they are set aside. What matters is sincerity, devotion and the courage to seek God beyond societal expectations. Just as a gardener does not choose a flower for its color alone but for its growth and resilience, Bulleh Shah tells us that spiritual worth comes from the heart not the name.
This kalam challenges us even today. It asks us to look past the ego, past inherited pride and past the superficial distinctions we hold onto. True closeness to God, true love, and true wisdom come when we let go of labels, hierarchy and judgment. Opening a path to humility, understanding and the sweetness of surrender. May we never stop listening, learningand reflecting on these timeless truths.
