Deadline: 31st May 2026. Fine for missing it: up to £7,000. Here’s what you need to know: ✅ Applies to written tenancy agreements created before 1st May 2026 ✅ Every named tenant must receive their own copy ✅ Send the actual PDF — NOT a link ✅ Email, text as attachment, post or hand deliver ✔️ Using a letting agent? There’s a new requirement linked to the Renters’ Rights changes and missing it could cost you up to £7,000. 📅 Key deadline: 31st May 2026 You’re required to send The Renters Right Information Sheet 2026 to your tenants and you must be able to prove they’ve received it. A few key things to keep in mind: ✅ It applies to existing tenancy agreements ✅ Each tenant must receive it individually ✅ You need proof it’s been delivered ✅ Sending it digitally (with confirmation/signature) is one of the fastest ways If you’re using a letting agent, don’t assume it’s handled double check. Most landlords think this is just another document. It’s not. From May 2026, the Renters’ Rights Act introduces a legal requirement that changes how every tenancy works in England. Here’s what you actually need to understand: You are now REQUIRED to inform your tenants about the new law. This isn’t optional, and it doesn’t matter if the tenancy is old or new. The government will issue an official information sheet explaining: – how tenancy agreements are changing – what rights tenants now have – what landlords can and cannot do You must send this to every tenant by 31 May 2026. If your tenancy is not written, you must go further and create a full written agreement with key terms. And yes — enforcement is real. Local councils can issue fines and penalties if you fail to comply. But here’s the bigger picture: This law removes Section 21 evictions, ends fixed-term contracts, and limits rent increases. Meaning: The entire rental model is shifting from landlord-controlled → tenant-protected. The landlords who understand this early will adapt. The rest will struggle.
