This video shows a CMT process adding a new layer to a structure. In this video, you can see everything clearly without the thermal brightness of the process. The video was taken with a high-speed camera and CAVILUX laser illumination. Illumination is applied from front to see the details of the core process. In addition, the system is placed in a Schlieren imaging setup to visualize the flow of the shielding gas. CAVILUX laser illumination with short pulses is used as light source also for the Schlieren setup. This provides high quality images without motion blur. Used filler material is a Ni-based superalloy solid wire. Video was taken in cooperation with LAL - Laser Application Laboratory of Tampere University (former Tampere University of Technology). Hello to our amazing followers on yet another #WeldPorn Friday! Last week we showed you what GMAW looks like with our CAVILUX lasers, today we get to be mesmerized again but in a Schlieren setup of a CMT (Cold Metal Transfer) footage taken at Laser Application Laboratory (LAL) of Tampere University. The video is played at 60 fps giving us a slow motion rate of 1:200. The protection gas used was Argon 68, Helium 30, CO2 2. In this test the. Our focus today is the protection gas flows which is visible in the beginning flowing from the nozzle of the welding torch before being covered by a thick layer of hot air as the result of the process. Pay attention to the moment at the first arc and how the hot air quickly expands like a mushroom cloud covering the protection gas. Protection gas in welding processes can be visualized with careful #Schlieren adjustment and testing preparation. Our ready made Schlieren system provides you with a much easier solution than what you would normally have to go through and saves you hundreds of hours of fine tuning and adjusting that you can spend making new discoveries and contributing to the scientific community. A very happy #Friday to all of you ! Today we show you a side by side comparison of what to expect when you use our #CAVILUX laser illumination and the different results you get based on the setup. Hopefully this will shed some light on to the different videos we have showed you over the past two years and provide a better understanding toward our setups. The process we are looking at is Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) taken at the laser laboratory in LAL @tampereuni The footage was captured at 12,000 frames per second and exported fps is 60. To get a better understanding of the scale, the torch tip diameter is 21.1 mm and the wire diameter 1.2mm. A. On top left corner is the typical view of welding you get when you record using a high camera with ND filters. While there are some visible points when the arc strikes, the rest is mostly darkness which makes it quite hard to identify any fine details in the melt pool. B. On the top right corner is our typical setup of CAVILUX laser illumination whereby we focused a single CAVILUX laser on the torch and used our band pass filters to filter our any other light (the process light). C. Bottom left corner is the addition of another laser using the Shadowgraphy technique and 2 lasers providing you a bit more detail going on such as spatter and their trails. D. Bottom right corner is the Schlieren setup and the use of 2 of our lasers. This is the most detail-oriented setup you can have which provides you with immense details such as protection gas flow as well as making almost every single spatter visible in addition to being track the direction of the spatter. 🤩 Wishing you all a fantastic Friday, today we want to reshare a very special video captured with #CAVILUX HF laser illumianion by the talented researchers at ‪@labsolda‬ Welding and Mechatronics Institute in Brazil. 📹 The footage was taken by Rafael Nunes as part of his Bachelor Thesis on GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) automatic processes at LABSOLDA at 1,000 frames per second. ✴️ Our CAVILUX HF laser illumination is literally the shiny star of the video. Due to the ideal mirror sphere of the big droplet of molten filler material, the laser illumination reflects directly to the camera and appears as a star. 🎯The the goal of this research was to evaluate dynamic wire feeding in the TIG process under specific experimental conditions. While the weld may not reflect a production-grade result, the video beautifully captures the art and science behind the welding process using high-speed imaging and CAVILUX lasers.
