Here’s what’s really happening in your brain: When CGRP floods your system during a migraine, it sensitizes your trigeminal nerve. Your brain becomes hyper-reactive to light, sound, smell—everything feels like a threat. Anti-CGRP meds interrupt that entire loop. You’re not just numbing pain. You’re reducing neuronal excitability. Your nervous system recalibrates from hyper-vigilant to regulated. And here’s the part most people miss: This is why they work even between attacks. They’re resetting your baseline reactivity every single day. Comment below: What do you wish someone had told you about CGRP meds before you started? The benefits of CGRP blockers 👇🏻 How CGRP Works 🧬Calcitonin gene-related peptide is a protein involved in transmitting pain signals & widening blood vessels.
🧬During a migraine, CGRP levels rise, contributing to pain & inflammation.
🧬CGRP meds block/neutralise this protein to reduce migraine frequency/severity.
🧬Types of meds: CGRP receptor blockers & monoclonal antibodies.
🧬Prevent migraines or stop mid-attack by interrupting the migraine pathway. CGRP Receptor Blockers (Oral Meds): 💊 Nurtec ODT (rimegepant) – prevents/treats acute migraines.
💊 Ubrelvy (ubrogepant) – acute migraine treatment.
💊 Qulipta (atogepant) – for migraine prevention. CGRP Monoclonal Antibodies (Injectable/IV): 💉 Aimovig (erenumab) – monthly self-injection - prevention.
💉 Emgality (galcanezumab) – monthly self-injection - prevention/cluster headaches.
💉 Ajovy (fremanezumab) – monthly or quarterly self-injection - prevention.
💉 Vyepti (eptinezumab) – IV infusion every 3 months - prevention. 🧠Follow @the.migraine.coach for more explanations of the options open to you for migraine relief #CGRP #CGRPblockers #aimovig #emgality #alternativetherapy #preventivetreatment #migraine #headache #chronicmigraine #mindbodyconnection

🧠 Migraine: Updated Treatment Approach Migraine is more than just a headache. It’s a neurological disorder that can seriously affect daily life. ✨ What’s new in treatment? • Early treatment works best • Triptans remain key for moderate to severe attacks • New options like gepants and ditans help when triptans aren’t suitable • CGRP-targeted therapies are changing prevention strategies • Botox is effective for chronic migraine • Avoid medication overuse and opioids 📌 Preventive therapy is advised if migraines are frequent or disabling. 📚 Based on updated guidance from CMDT & UpToDate #Migraine #Headache #Neurology #CGRP #Triptans

How long did it take for you to find an effective migraine treatment strategy? For many people, finding the right mix of medication, lifestyle changes and therapies involves trial and error, which can be exhausting mentally, physically and financially. A/Prof Sanders hopes her research into CGRP will help doctors tailor migraine treatment based on an individual’s biology, not just a ‘best guess’. #migraine #migraineresearch #CGRP#MigraineTreatment

Migraines are more than just headaches, they’re often the result of how sensitive your brain is to everyday triggers. Even small stimuli like certain smells, smoke, or specific foods can set off an episode. In this video, Dr. Achint Krishna, Specialist – Neurology, explains migraines in a simple way, like an overactive “alarm system” in the brain. When this system is highly sensitive, even minor triggers can activate it and lead to a migraine. He also shares how newer research is focusing on CGRP molecules, which play a key role in how migraines are triggered. By reducing their sensitivity, much like lowering the volume on noise, modern treatments aim to better control and reduce the frequency of migraines. With the right understanding, trigger management, and medical support, migraines can be effectively managed, helping improve quality of life. 📞 +968 2249 6000 🌐 www.aster.om #MigraineAwareness #NeurologyCare #HeadacheRelief #CGRP #BrainHealth #AsterAlRaffahHospitalsAndClinics #TreatInOman #Neuro

⸻ For five years, this patient suffered from Myofascial Pain. Headaches. Jaw pain. Neck pain. Anxiety. Gastric issues. When she came to us, her biggest fear was not the pain — it was the injection. She had to convince her husband and family. “Why injections?” “Is it safe?” “How can this treat long-term pain?” Let me explain clearly. When a person undergoes prolonged emotional stress, the nervous system becomes hypersensitive. The fascia tightens. Muscles around the nerves contract. Small knots called trigger points form. These tightened fascia and trigger points compress nearby nerves. When the trigeminal nerve is compressed, it releases a chemical called CGRP (Calcitonin Gene-Related Polypeptide) — one of the major chemicals responsible for migraine and chronic pain. In fact, many modern migraine medications work by blocking CGRP. So the real issue is not just the pain. It is nerve compression and chemical sensitisation. When we perform fascial release: Fascia releases → Nerves relax → CGRP reduces → Pain reduces. That is the mechanism. When the trigeminal nerve relaxes, migraines reduce. When the vagus nerve relaxes, gastric issues, palpitations, anxiety and dizziness reduce. When cervical nerves relax, neck, shoulder and radiating pains reduce. Now why do we use lignocaine? To release fascia and deactivate trigger points, we need a fluid medium. Even sterile water can mechanically release fascia. But lignocaine has been safely used for decades. It is muscle-safe, reduces procedural discomfort, temporarily calms irritated nerve endings, and helps us effectively release the trigger points. We are not giving injections to “cover up” pain. We are using lignocaine as a safe medium to release fascia and calm compressed nerves at the root level. And today, the same patient who once feared injections is completely pain-free and living happily. Myofascial Pain is real. And it is treatable. — Dr. Dhivya Dilipkumar Orofacial Pain Specialist

A new era in migraine therapy is providing significant relief, with some treatments making symptoms nearly disappear. These breakthroughs move beyond older medications by precisely targeting the root causes of migraine attacks. Here’s a brief overview: * For Acute Attacks: A new class of oral pills called Gepants (e.g., Nurtec ODT, Ubrelvy) offers fast relief from pain and other symptoms. They work by blocking a key migraine-triggering protein (CGRP) and don’t have the cardiovascular side effects associated with older triptan drugs. Another option is the new combination pill Symbravo, which provides both rapid and sustained relief. * For Prevention: For those with frequent migraines, monoclonal antibodies are a game-changer. These are long-lasting injections (monthly or quarterly) that proactively block the CGRP pathway to prevent migraines before they start. In essence, these targeted therapies represent a major advance, offering more effective and personalized options that are significantly improving the quality of life for migraine sufferers. #Migraine #MigraineTreatment #CGRP #NewHope #MigraineWarrior #BrainHealth #PainRelief #ChronicPain #MigraineCommunity #Neurology #HealthIndia
