👩🏻‍⚕️Here’s a simple demo of how to put on your CPAP mask on if you have long hair to avoid having bed head. It doesn’t have to be complicated and a simple trick like putting your hair in a bun or ponytail will do the trick. #sleepdoctor #sleepexpert #sleepeducation #sleepapnea #cpap #cpapmachine #cpapmask

I’ve used CPAP for almost 6 years and I wish I caught onto this earlier. It's a quick and simple “win” for your adjustment to CPAP or BiPAP. . Because you're sleeping all night with something on your face, skincare can be a challenge when you're first starting out. I dealt with skin redness and irritation for the first several months. Then, I started using mask liners.  . Mask liners are made of cotton fabric or silk, and some are washable and reusable. They add a barrier between your skin and the silicone of the CPAP mask, but don’t interfere with the effectiveness of your treatment. I’ve also found that they help with my mask seal and prevent leaks. . This is part one of a "things I'd do differently" series. Be sure to follow me @meandmycpap so you don't miss out 🤓 . #cpap #sleepbetter #cpaptips #sleepapnea #sleepy

CPAP is the “gold standard” for sleep apnea, but, what if that doesn’t work? What if you are a woman , where the sleep study said you’re fine? But still feel tired as hell? What if you can’t tolerate the CPAP? What if your nose is always stuffy? The reasons why people have sleep apnea, upper respiratory airway syndrome, sleep breathing problems are: STRUCTURAL PATHOLOGICAL MUSCULAR BEHAVIORAL Structural: the space designated to breathe in your body is too small. The palate narrows, which also narrows the base of the nose. The threshold of effort required to breathe now becomes higher- needing to put more effort to get oxygen through your body. This changes your compensatory behaviors without you cognitively knowing. Think of “overbreathing”, having to change your jaw and tongue posture. Less airflow through the nose, you’ll create more turbulence inside the nose and airway, which creates inflammation. You’ve heard of a deviated septum? That’s from a narrow palate. You’ve heard of nasal polyps? That’s from having to breathe more forcefully. NO WONDER YOU FEEL SUFFICATION WITH THE CPAP MASK ON YOUR FACE. Options: Palate expansion. Always best combined with therapy. Breathing therapy, muscle therapy to reverse the negative feedback loop. If you help create more breathing space, and also more tongue space, and re-learn how to rest your mouth, and breathe more efficiently- you can absolutely reverse your sleep issues. My husband here is getting ready to get his MARPE placed, and his orthodontist many tiny little cuts to open the sagittal suture. This will open his palate and also his nose to allow him to breathe better. There are options! 🫶🏼 #sleep #cpap #sleepapnea #menopause #womenshealth #men #snoring #breathe

Normally, I’d do a voiceover, but not today. • The girls started in their room and ended up in my bed by morning (per usual). • I ripped off my CPAP mask around 4 AM (nothing new, still not used to it). • Mykal wants to know if it’s doughnut day. • Leila’s upset her butter melted on her Eggo. • Mykal’s mad her butter didn’t melt. • Mykal hates pre-K because she wants to go to work with her dad. • I sat in the car for 15 mins making a video talking to myself… then cried because I spilled rice on my pants. Nothing new—I cry over everything in my old age. Not sure how to fit a full day into one video, but honestly, I don’t have to. Consistency and grace—that’s what I’m working on. Leila had a tough day. Said she had to hit a boy to stand up for her friends. But we did make it to gymnastics. Just a day in the life of a Maunty of 3 and Mommy of 5.

Five years ago today, my husband achieved something truly remarkable. Out of millions of noisy sleepers across America, he was crowned one of the loudest snores in the nation by none other than Dr. Phil himself. 🏆💤 Yes, folks, his snore wasn’t just a nuisance—it was prime time TV worthy. Imagine his surprise (and mild horror) when I casually mentioned I had submitted a secret recording of his symphonic nighttime performance to Dr. Phil. Let’s just say, he didn’t know he was auditioning. And imagine my surprise when we got the call saying he made the cut! Thanks to Dr. Phil and his snore-shaming intervention, my husband now rocks a CPAP mask like the hero he is, and for the first time in years, I can sleep without earplugs and prayer. Moral of the story: Never underestimate the power of love, persistence, and a well-timed hidden camera.
