You aren’t doing anything wrong. There’s a misunderstanding about cancer recovery that honestly, isn’t talked about enough. You deserve to be supported through your entire cancer journey. But most likely, what happened is you finished your treatments, your team said “great job!” and then handed you an appointment reminder card for a follow up in 3 months. Cool, right? You’re moving on past this cancer thing… Except you don’t actually move on just because treatments are done. Your body is still dealing with the ramifications of cancer treatments. And your mind is deeply impacted by the experience you just had. These are the things I hear from my clients. You finish your treatments and you SHOULD feel better soon, but there’s a delay and you weren’t prepared for it. Not to mention, sometimes it DOES feel like your improving in some areas, but then you decline in other areas (1 step forward, 2 steps back) I wish cancer clinics did a better job at sharing this: 👉Cancer recovery isn’t quick. 👉It definitely isn’t linear. 👉It’s okay to still be struggling. 👉You still deserve support. It’s completely unfair that you’d be given a diagnosis, thrown into treatments before you could even process, then given a high five when you finish, THEN be expected to just pick up the pieces on your own. The number of times I’ve had someone tell me they thought they were doing something wrong because they didn’t recover as quick or as consistently as they thought is too many to count. The real problem here isn’t you, or what you’re doing. It’s that transparency around recovery was never shared with you. And what happens is you end up feeling flawed & broken when really, you should feel supported and nurtured. Slow recovery…non-linear recovery is SO normal, but if you’re not expecting it, it can be devastating and concerning. I so badly want you to feel supported in this time. You can be and I’m sorry it didn’t happen automatically. It should have. You don’t need to feel lost or alone. Help doesn’t only need to be during treatment. You can have support as you rebuild after cancer too. 💕My DMs are open and I’d love to hear from you.

Cancer recovery changes you in ways people don’t see. You learn your energy isn’t unlimited. You learn food matters. You learn rest isn’t lazy. And you learn your body deserves compassion, not criticism. So many women tell me recovery after cancer treatment feels harder than treatment itself — because support disappears and expectations return too quickly. If you’re navigating life after cancer, you’re not alone here. 👇 Tell me in the comments: What has recovery taught you?

Cancer Recovery: Just sharing a few thoughts about what to say to be a supportive person to someone diagnosed with #cancer - there are no perfect words. We all mean well, but sometimes our tendency to look for every possible silver lining results in miscommunication. A lot of people asked this question and I don’t have all the answers, so other warriors please chime in! What words were helpful to you? I enjoyed humor, but the way 😉 ❤️ Dr. Katie #breastcancersupport

When we can access compassion and curiosity for all the parts of ourselves that are working together to create our current reality, we give ourselves the permission and the capacity to transform our lives. This matters even more when someone’s on a health journey because it’s hard to decipher between what is actually contributing to the illness. Is it from an environmental toxin? Is it from a lack of nutrition and nutrients? Is it from the body being in a chronic state of toxic stress? We won’t know the answers to that question if we don’t get curious. We cannot know the answers to those questions if we immediately judge or criticize our intuition. This is why I believe that doing the inner work is so important for those on a health journey to experience breakthrough outcomes. When you become aware of how your internal state is impacting the choices you make, you give yourself so much more control to create measurable, meaningful, lasting transformation in your health and life. Head to this week’s episode with my dear friend @drnashawitners titled “The Inner Work of Cancer Recovery” to hear time tested insights and principles from having seen thousands of patients transcend disease by transforming themselves.

When I was in chemo, there was one kind of exercise I was told never to do. I carried that fear for years—until I learned it could actually help me heal. This week, I sat down with Coach April Perreras, a cancer survivor and Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist, to talk about what movement really means after treatment. 🏃🏻‍♀️💨 Our conversation, “Move to Heal: The Missing Link in Cancer Recovery,” goes live this Friday at 8:30 PM on Spotify and YouTube. 🎙️

SO YOU WANT TO MAKE HEALTHY CHANGES IN CANCER RECOVERY, BUT HOW?? I get it, trying to change existing habits or introducing new ones—and making them stick—is HARD. 😮‍💨 But habit stacking is a great way to start to make it easier- and MORE achievable. And this is because habit stacking involves “stacking” a new behavior onto a current behavior to help you remember to do it and/or perform it with less mental effort. For example, a way to “habit stack” would be to tell yourself: “When I drink my coffee every morning, I will write down 3 things I’m grateful for every day.” OR “When I go for my daily walk, I will put on a walking meditation to clear my mind and stay present.” Pretty cool, right? Alot of us already have routines in place, so stacking a new healthy habit onto an existing routine, helps trigger the brain to remember it and carry it through. 💯 THIS is how change and new habits are formed. So how do you get started? 1. Identify what specific actions you want to take to enhance your daily routine. Make a list and organize it to what is most important to you at this moment. 📋 2. Start small. Don’t take on TOO much TOO fast. Start with  1 new action and stick with it until it becomes a “no brainer”. Meaning, that habit is put on “auto pilot” and you do it daily without thinking about it. ☑️ 3. Be specific. Know exactly what the action item is and tie it to a routine that you do every single day. Be clear about what/why/when it happens. 👏🏻👏🏻 If you are struggling after cancer treatments, and you are unsure on how to move forward in cancer recovery, there is HELP! Not sure where to start?
